Did anyone on here stay for the game against Mansfield? I must admit I only stayed until half-time due to the cold, it was horrible, but the first half was very impressive. http://www.hulltigersacademy.com/news/u21s-report-hull-city-8-mansfield-town-0? Despite Mansfield being absolutely terrible and struggling to pass 3/4 passes together, our U21's played really well, with it finishing 8-0 in the end, 4-0 at half time. Max Clark looks an amazing player. He was demanding the ball all the time, sweeping up danger, and always looking to burst into the space in the middle of the park and picking out a pass. Johnny Margetts looks equally as impressive playing up front, Ter Horst looks like he has adapted to playing on the wing very well, Greg Luer and Will Annan were always a handful. But the question is, will they ever get a chance of breaking into our first team? Probably not whilst we are in the Premier League. I think Dean Windass summed up the current struggle for our youth team when he said something along the lines of "How can Bruce monitor the youth team when the first team squad train miles away from the youth team?" he then went on to say about how Phil Brown always used to to wander over to watch the youth team a few times a week, hence why the likes of Cullen, Cairney, Cooper were all given a chance during his tenure. (I started a new thread as the topic of the youth team always comes up in mutliple threads, we could just have one main thread for all discussions on our youth team?)
Exactly, but I do think the move to Bishop Burton is a temporary one, as we are rushing to get category 2 status so we no longer have to play against league 2 youth teams. As soon as we achieve this, we will then look to either expand our current training ground or look to build a new one in order to incorporate the youth team with category 2 facilities with the room to build up to category 1 status. Obviously something like this can only happen with the funds from playing in the Premier League, relegation and we will stay at Bishop Burton.
We'll stay at Bishop Burton regardless, we're looking to build indoor pitches there, you don't do that if it's a short term thing.
Surely that would completely contradict everything Allam has said previously about building on land he does not own?
Our youth teams & reserves won't get anywhere if they continue to compete against poor opposition. The U21s are playing against youth & reserve teams of League 2 & Conference sides, and it needs to change if we're going to bring through players and put them in our first team.
So did the likes of Cullen, Cooper, and Cairney. Yet they all reached our first team at some point, all have now moved on and done well. Cullen maybe playing in League 2, but with Luton who are in the top 4, he is their top goal scorer on 9. Cooper is now captain of the TWS, and Cairney's doing very well with Blackburn.
Were we? In that case that's fair enough I take it all back. He is, however he is doing well with Luton. Probably found his level now, unless he continues to improve, he might be a league 1 player next season anyway.
Just seen the goals on FB & some nice play, but difficult to judge against some poor defending. I would have stayed for the game but I had to be in Manchester, maybe should have had that game first.
I haven't seen the goals since, however the free kick from Max Clark, wow. If that was scored in the Premier League we'd still be raving about it now.
I planned to stay for it and wish I had, but I was so pissed off after watching the first team, and so bloody cold I went home.
It wasn't just the free kick from Max but it was his performance as a whole which was refreshing to see, he was the stand out player for me. Definitely deserves a chance on the bench, he would offer more than Huddlestone, Meyler and Livermore on their current form.
That's a bit of a daft suggestion. He's played well against the Mansfield Reserve Team but to say that means he deserves a PL appearance really is ludicrous.
