Whatever colour it is, I reckon it'll be very slow. Chassis looks alright, so much so if they had a mercedes in the back it might be fighting for podiums, but honda are so far behind, it'll take this season at least to get it up to speed and working together. Just my opinion though, hope it's competitive!

Some of the cars pounding around today.

    Honda sounds very different...

I don't know why, but I love the look of that Williams... And the cars seem to sound so much better.

I'm starting to get a little excited for the season opener. :)

The Honda sounds very different, indeed. Both times it went past it sounded like an approaching helicopter. They did say it is a development engine and still two or three steps away from race spec, but it sounds weird (for the lack of a better term).

I seem to recall in previous years there were a couple of sites which showed every single lap time completed by the drivers, what tyres they were on, etc. Are those still around? Would be useful for looking at averages.

Surprising pace from the Ferrari. Can't see how many laps they have done though so difficult to compare what programmes they are on.

    Still, if I was Alonso...

Honda look like they have big issues. The difference in sound is the engine simply not running cleanly and not being able to pull the skin off custard out of a corner.

It seems to be more serious than RBR's issues last year with the Renault, as McLaren and Honda already had 3 days with the engine in Abu Dhabi and couldn't get it to work then either. Other Renault teams did at least get in some running and RBR's issues were doing to their own cooling package which was easily rectified.

If after two tests and the development time they have had to date, is there a fundamental flaw in the engine/electronics design that is stopping it from running properly, even for a few laps.

Currently they may as well strap in a Life W12 and they'd get more mileage in........

If Honda don't get that car working soon they are completely ****ed. 8 laps so far.

Compare that to the worst teams in 2014 testing:
Total laps in second Bahrain test - by team (power unit, where different)
    10. Red Bull (Renault), 182
    11. Lotus (Renault), 127

Total laps in second Bahrain test - by power unit:
    2. Ferrari, 968 (3 teams)
    3. Renault, 878 (4 teams)

Total 2014 test distance - by team (power unit, where different):
    10. Marussia (Ferrari), 1686.084 km

    11. Lotus (Renault), 1288.056 km (Lotus missed opening Jerez test)

Total 2014 test distance - by power unit:
    3. Ferrari (3 teams), 10213.92 km
    2. Renault (4 teams), 8743.332 km

Ferrari always flatter to deceive in tests, free practice etc. They're just fundamentally dishonest, like blaming Alonso for all their recent woes. I still expect them to be **** on the day in Melbourne.

Reports of Red Bull having "TOO MUCH GRIP" so currently running with no front wing,

please log in to view this image

Daniil Kvyat suffered what was described as having a 'small off', but the damage to the front-wing is such that it will take time being repaired and raises doubts that the team will get back up to speed.

In the meantime, Kvyat is lapping – albeit minus his front-wing – and completing minor work, but is not completing slow lap times.

"Unfortunately Daniil had a very slight off on an install lap this morning on a cold track," confirmed team principal Christian Horner. "He was just changing something on the steering wheel, and between turns two and three just very lightly touched the tyre wall with the front wing.

"That damaged the front wing, it's the only front-wing assembly we have in Jerez at the moment, which is relatively usual for this time of year when you are not abundant with spare parts.

"There are more components coming down later today, this evening and over the next two days. We'll have a new front wing certainly by tomorrow morning."

"What I should really be telling you is we've so much downforce we don't need the front wing! We're just trying to balance the car."

The problem is a blow to Red Bull's preparations after Daniel Ricciardo could only manage 36 laps on day one due to minor, but time consuming issues.

Yeah Ferrari always push the envelop more than any other top team, Mercedes sandbag the most followed by RBR. The 2013 season was a good example during practice when you thought Mercedes were not going to get pole because of struggles, then boom gets pole.
