It's profit margins innit Bri, to an investor, they look at how much they'd make in 4 years as rough, rule of thumb. I'd imagine Newcastle make in the region of £50m profit, before tax. Add to that your brand capabilities and so on, future projections, ie. increments in revenues from TV/inflation etc. I'd say Ashley would need a lot more than £250m to sell up if he's still owed £120m in loans. His current model, he can take £250m from that club probably over 10 years, why sell it? no need.
Spot on explained it better than I could try to. Although on the last point, that's undoubtedly been his thinking UNTIL Rangers became available. He'd have stayed for decades eeking money out of us. But I think now he sees more potential in getting a club for next to nothing and having Sports Direct plastered across all the champions league programmes in a few years. If he could keep us both he would I'm sure.
That, I believe, is what it cost Big Mike to gain full control when he took over. (Okay not quite a decade ago, 8 years)
I keep hearing this about you being profitable, you're not are you really? You're breaking even as Ashley skims to repay the loan. You would be profitable if not for the debt but the debt is very much there. We've posted losses year on year because the books weren't balanced, but there's been no loan debt on the club, only spent into our overdraft. We've sorted our wage bill out, kept a zero net spend for multiple seasons to pay off our overdraft. That nice big seventy million at the end of last season cleared the last of the debt and give us the money for PVA and Rodwell, we've already been told that the tv money cleared the debt by our Chief Executive. All this coincides with the introduction of the ffp rules in which Ellis short himself was one of the main players in setting up. It's a very recent thing but believe me fella, we're now debt free, our wages are in line and our revenue capabilities have expanded.
Mike Ashley probably won't own Rangers on paper, he'll have the entire club swallowed up by Sports Direct, one way or another, using a loop hole. He'll still own it, with that Lambias in charge running the show of course. Ey maybe it's something simple, all of us debating this and that, he could just be buying Rangers cos they'll let him have a pint in his seat during the match
Mate from a long term business perspective, the yearly profit/losses is far more important than solid debt.
"In the last published set of accounts, published in March 2011 (for 2009/10), they revealed that the club’s net debt at that time stood at around £150 million, most of this figure being owed to a certain Mr.MJW.Ashley of Totteridge, Hertfordshire."
En Garde Great to see, everything that's been chucked at him he's came back and answered everybody and everything directly. Respect fella. Doesn't matter that you can't remember Ashley failing to sell the club at 100m, so haven't got a Scooby doo where this 250m price tag is coming from
Whatever it is that he's hatching in that egg head of his, you can sure it will be something extremely ****ish and in the best interests of no one but himself.
Last I read, he wasn't taking anything from the club for himself, as long as the club owe him £120m nobody will ever buy the club. There's no way in hell he'll want to sell that club, not with the rate money is being poured into the EPL.
Even if he's doing that mate, the books will still show that as profit, he won't be there to do that once he's sold it... well maybe he ****ing would actually!
We are and that's BEFORE the massive changes to TV revenue. One thing your overlooking is that almost all clubs have debt. I really wouldn't be certain that Sunderland don't mate. It costs a small fortune year in year out in dead money just to service that debt. Whereas Ashley wrote off all our creditors and took the debt upon himself so all that money that would have been spent on servicing the debt (I'm sure I read somewhere it can be up to 20million a year, not sure on that though) isn't the case for us.
I agree with Terry that Ashley doesn't need to actually own Rangers to promote his business. He has them by the bollocks and he'll advertise in whichever way he chooses eventually. There's no point selling Newcastle. He's been giving absolute proof that, no matter what weeping & wailing, 50,000 will turn up year after year. He just can't lose can he ........ he can manipulate the debt figures to show anything he chooses.
2013 Figures show a post-tax profit of £9.9m 2014 are probably better with Cabaye being shifted. 2015 will be by far and away better with the TV deal and the sale of Sissoko to Arsenal and Perez to United.
Well their last financial report shows A profit less then 10m mate. Ashley will spend what he needs to keep them up, then go back to taking for the debt like he has been doing. I don't think he wants to sell it either, but you can bet your arse he still wants his money back.
