If Sunderland got relegated, they'd be in a world of trouble, no way would be able to offload Defoe at those sort of wages.
That money is absolutely atronomical. Who on earth decides to pay that??! Thats almost so bad it just ask the fit and proper owner test!
Well bearing in mind Chelsea and Juventus wanted Kramaric and Nigel has been chasing him for 2 years I'm more then happy with Kramaric over Defoe
Knock them back for you did he? You are more than happy in a relegation fight, having an unproven striker over a proven premier league goal scorer? Madness.
Yeah he did knock them back, he was on the verge of signing for Chelsea. Don't get me wrong I would have been happy with Defoe but his demands are ridiculous for a 32 year old striker coming from the MLS, never mind being injured all the time Kramaric is a risk but he might be the next big thing.
I can't argue with that because you just never know. That's my point though mate, with all respect, Leicester must be the bookies favourites to go down, statistics and everything is against you staying up. I just feel in your situation, I would have held off a signing like Kramaric until the summer and brought in Defoe or somebody with similar experience to get you the goals to beat the drop. Anyways, good luck for the rest of the season
If we win tomorrow and results go our way and we are then out of the bottom 3 with some momentum behind us. I wouldnt consign us to relegation. We will still spend quite a bit more money in this window. If we didn't sign Kramaric then he would be at either Chelsea or Juventus so it was now or never. Defoe isn't match fit so he will take a few games to get up to standard while Kramaric can come straight in. Kramaric fits in with our group of young players trying to prove a point rather then players coming for a final payday. Our main problem have been only Ulloa has been capable of scoring goals, Kramaric hopefully sorts that out. And defensively we have been poor but recently we have been superb with 3 clean sheets out of 4 games and the game we did concede in was because 2 penalties that wasn't.
Three and a half year contract for old man Defoe?! I thought he was close to retirement! I wouldn't have minded him for the rest of the season, maybe even as back-up for next too, but three years from now? And with the money he's on? Sunderland could be in trouble with FFP if they get relegated, and I'd say relegation at some point in the next three seasons is probably likely for a club that has bounced between the Prem and Championship over the last 20 years.
The thing is if Sunderland go down they will have trouble trying to shift Defoe due to his wages and he isn't the type of player who is going to want to play in the Championship Andrej Kramaric will get a lot of interest regardless of how he does for us due to his record in Croatia and the fact he is a Croatian international. 28 goals in 24 games will always get you notice. We might lose money on him if he does struggle but if it works then it could pay off massive in more ways then 1
The signings of Defoe and Kramaric aren't even comparable Proud. Krammy has his future ahead of him and I'd bet that he's on nothing like the wages of Defoe - unless we've radically altered our wage structure (that's why the Wigan lad won't be signing either). The only gamble for us is the transfer fee - but £10m is par for the course in the Prem.
So we are at the bottom as a result of playing well and not scoring enough goals, so we should not buy a striker till the summer? How ridiculous. We should sign Defoe instead? A 32 year old on a THREE AND A HALF year contract with wages of £70k, who costs more money (including wages) than a up-and-coming 23 year old who was sought after by Chelsea and Juventus? Well if we do go down where do you see the more resale value?
Dont think so - think the whole deal including wages and player swap was worth £14m. They dont have 'arry in charge you know!
Still an awful lot for a 32 year old who's effectively been playing in League One for the last couple of years, Barwell
