Haha was referring specifically to attackers but yes. Not to forget £25m on Allen and Borini. I have a lot more faith in the committee (or the ex-city scouts to be precise) to spend our money and identify and buy quality players than Rodgers.
Its not that I don't understand or agree with this logic. Its more to do with risk being more than just financial. Part of the risk is the individual player and how he performs and fits in, both of which effect the team. Can we afford to have two 'potential' gambles in the forward positions? Especially alongside the already flagging Mario, Rickie and Fabio...? (I appreciate you mentioned a swap too)
And back to the point; you know this how...? I'm not arguing against it as that seems quite likely but you keep banging that drum as though its the gospel truth whereas its only your opinion.
More the amount spent, £44m on two players worth half that combined. But if it has to be one it'd be Lovren
Well, just adding Sterling upfront front made significant improvement as it gave us pace up front and runners behind the opposing back 4. Its not Sterling's natural position and he has not exactly been prolific or cutting edge, but it has allowed our football to flow much better and we are starting to look ourselves again. Berahino is a player who has that pace, runs in behind and is natural in that position. Berahino would be more prolific and instinctive in that role and would chip in more goals. I think we have learnt this season that style is very important for us when signing players. An above average player who fits our style is better for us than a better player who doesnt fit. Out of the other strikers available, including more experienced ones, many dont quite fit stylisticly like Berahino does. Lavezzi maybe, but not as a lone striker IMO, which I think we must consider looking at Sturridges fitness and the increase in clean sheets with this current formation.
Agreed. Although I doubt I'll ever be a Lallana fan, at least there is some substance there even if we have overpaid for it. With Lovren we've just bought an expensive downgrade on Agger
the attitude thats on berahino reminds me of sturridge. west brom need to line up thier replacement and sell that lad but i suppose of he could be convinced to be porfessional enough to wait til may for his move..... in the end someone actually has to bid... the problem is a club like spurs prob will offer 15mil and berahino will jump and cause trouble to initiate the move and force them to sell... our lot will then be questioning why didn't we do that and west brom fans will be going mad. I think west brom need to hold out for the best fee but if the lads has this attitude it looks like he has they are better off rid of him
True, but then the price tag goes up the less of a gamble it is. Sometimes you just have to get in there first and risk it. In 12 months if he keeps this up, citeh or chavski are in with £35M offers for him, and we don't stand a chance.
Let them have him If we're gonna be spending £20m on a player, this player better be an elite young talent or a player with good high level experience and has performed consistently for 18 months. Context - Suarez and Torres cost around £24m. Both played for big clubs and had big reps around Europe. Berahino plays for West Brom. Does well in patches. Massive difference. Far more value around the continent and better quality.
Were reports that were using a bit od dodgy dealings to get around FFP (who'd have thought?) Also, in one paper think it said they were looking to maybe get rid of Jovetic to make way for Bony and use the £25m they get in the summer from Negredo (can't believe Valencia are paying £25m for him ) to fund a move for Lacazette as well. Wouldn't mind Jovetic if he was available for anything under £20m to be fair. Can play centrally or move out wide and support Sturridge.
Immediately thought we should have a cheeky bid for Jovetic as well, if he's on the way out Negredo's quality, better than Bony
