This thread is much quieter than last January- then Arsenal were top of the league and many thought that the signing of a top DM or striker could help win the title..... Unfortunately Wenger decided otherwise
Almost a week gone and no business completed. Inexcusably weak management. There are matches happening NOW. We should not be waiting for the end of the window.
If we sign anyone it will be on the last day. Why is it that I feel the Cavani rumour is soo much more likely than us buying a DM? I could actually see us splashing £50 million on Cavani - yet signing the type of player we urgently need (DM) seems soo unlikely.
And that is exactly why it is weak management. We do also need a quality striker so don't look a gift-horse in the mouth. We've needed a good one for years.
"Inexcusably weak management" - yep, must be the only explanation, there couldn't possibly be any reasons for not getting business done we want to other than inexcusably weak management. There are no external factors involved in transfers, it's just our management, it's 100% up to them when we manage to sign our targets. How could you possibly know that weak management is the sole reason for us having not signed any players yet? And yet you say it with such conviction, like you know that is what's going on!
I can't agree 100 % because in one hand Wenger does manage to get some very good value deals this way but.. It's insanely risky when we have a squad gap that urgently needs fixing. (Which we often do) A powerhouse like Carvalho or even Sissoko would provide a solid platform for the likes of Ozil and Carzorla to really flourish. But I could easily see Wenger adding another attacking player if he can get them for a cut price.
When Vermaelen left everyone...and I mean...EVERYONE could see Arsenal needed a centreback. That was nigh on 6 months ago. The transfer window doesn't mean transfers begin, many are tied up long before the window, and ratified during it. Arsenal have had SIX MONTHS to find targets, make bids and conclude negotiations prior to the window. The fact that no signings have been made is a traversty of failing of the regime at Arsenal and I challenge you to provide any sort of reasonable alternative.
Torygraph are reporting that Cech is on our radar for the summer when Maureen will let him decide where he wants to go. I'd take Cech as I think Szczesny needs some more competition for the no1 spot. However with Lloris possibly leaving the Spuds and Liverpool wanting somebody to replace the hapless Mignolet, then Cech could be sought after.
Does not even look we are bothering in this window. The club have already leaked one story to Mr Wilson about us only going for Schneiderlin in the summer, so very unlikely to get a DM in this window. Oh well, guess we will have to wait until the final day, so Wenger can sign a hasbeen Swedish midfielder.
One thing I've learn from countless transfer windows is we won't know anything unless the management make it public. I think we will get a CB but I'm not so sure a DM. If we got a striker then I would be flabbergasted, but would Wenger dip into the market for a Pod replacement? We have OXO/Welbeck who can play there and Wenger likes playing Ozil there too. So this would be a luxury unless Wenger snaffles a bargain of the century.
