That's pretty generic though isn't it? Surely any prospective manager would claim an ethos of hard work and of being ambitious, I'd assume they would be pre-requisites rather than stand out traits. And surely any manager under the age of 45 would hope to have a long and ideally successful managerial career ahead of them wouldn't they? Have to say I'll be pretty underwhelmed if this turns out to be true (as I was when Lambert got the gig, so it's not necessarily a barometer of failure) and thought that the reason we accepted Neeyul's resignation was because the board had recognised this season as our best chance to bounce back, and they didn't want to risk giving an unproven manager valuable time to find his feet and instead were looking to bring in someone with a proven track record of getting out of this division. I honestly expected Warnock to get the gig until the end of the season, if there is mileage in this chap then it sounds pretty risky to me, if promotion this season is the 'be all and end all'.
He wasn't proven as a manager though was he? Or have I missed something? Lambert was a manager in his second job when we employed him in case you didn't realise.
The way I am trying to look at it is............when was the last time Hamilton were in the top 3 of the top division in Scotland at the turn of the year? I would guess something along the lines of 40+ years. That in itself is quite an achievement, although I accept the SPL is not as strong or competitive.
Look on the bright side, Munky. At least if this goes ahead you won't have to ponce around changing your signature (Though looking at the current league table, I might be overdue a change to mine )
He got his unfancied team up through the play offs and in to 3rd in the SPL beating Celtic 1-0 along the way ,sounds impressive & Scottish managers are usually quite good . Absolutely no Idea how he will do but he sounds quite promising.
Tbh, I feel like this is a refreshing move as to be honest none of the other options being touted excited me. It might be the element of the unknown, but I'm strangely feeling positive about this move and hope to be cheering him on from the stands at Goldsands come Saturday 3pm
Coaches don't always make good managers, Peter grant was good coach. Neil Alex is a player/manager who works with coaches. And is proven even if it is in the Scottish first division. (Spending no money on his team)
God he's only 3 years older than me, that kind of makes me feel old knowing someone near my age can run the club I support lol. I must admit not knowing a great deal about him, but the other names floating about doesn't excite me much, I think having a young ambitious manager is someone I could be excited about.
Think we're talking at crossed purposes, the point that was originally made was that Lambert was successful despite being relatively unproven and Scottish, just like Peter Grant
I put this on twitter earlier - it does suggest that having got it "so right" with Lambert and so not right with CH and NA what the hell are they meant to do to for the best appease the Premier League lusting troops
The prospect of the new Neil excites me more than most of the names banded about. Young, ambitious and driven. A few quotes from Accies fans; "He's always been VERY vocal on the pitch and is held in very high regard by every player that has played with him or for him." "Alex has got us playing attractive offensive football. He will never sit back to protect a lead, his objective is to score as many goals as possible. He is hard player, he stands his ground and will not take any *** from prima donnas. His best quality however is that he has found a way of galvanising a group of boys into an effective unit. They play for each other and for him. " What more do you want from a manager?
This would be a great appointment at the start of the season when he has got time to get the know the players and assess the squad but it is one hell of a risk when he has to hit the ground running and get results straight from the off!
My views for what they are worth. Had no idea who I wanted but like most people had objections to every name being proposed. As I had never heard of him until today I couldn't look him up on Wikipedia. Could be a stroke of genius or could be a disappointment - only time will tell but ffs give the lad a chance and by that I don't mean the end of the month!!
