    Look at it like this. If a teacher got convicted of rape and you found out that after serving their sentence that teacher was working again in the school your kid was attending and teaching him/her in a particular class how would you feel about that?? It's not totally a media issue, although I see the point you're making about perception.

    It's a requirement to be a teacher in the first place to pass a criminal record check. If Evans didn't need to pass one in the first place to be a footballer, and other players don't currently need to take one, why is he now being singled out? But if the same rule will apply to everyone else from now on then fair enough.

    Can't remember as much of a media frenzy over Rix and he was higher profile than Evans.

    In March 1999, Rix was sentenced to 12 months in prison, of which he served six, for having underage sex with a 15-year-old girl. He was also ordered to be placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years, and banned by the FA from working with youth players under the age of 16.[3] Upon his release from prison he immediately rejoined Chelsea in his old job. He won the FA Cup again in 2000 before leaving the club after Vialli was sacked by Ken Bates, after a brief spell as caretaker manager.

    Maybe he was 'lucky' his sordid offences happened prior to Savile's crimes coming to light, or maybe Chelsea had no class.

    That's called an FA 'independent' panel.

    I don't think he's being prevented from playing professional football by the BBC (another one of your bizarre obsessions) or the FA. He just can't find a club who wants to sign him given he's a convicted rapist. Perhaps if he was a better player he would have a contract by now.

    The problem is Oldham signed Lee Hughes in 2007 and I can't remember petitions & millions of articles urging them not to sign him.Even the Manchester police commissioner said they shouldn't sign him, which is funny in a way considering the stuff police get to do in the name of the law and still keep their job.

    That is a point. Had Ryan Giggs ever been done for the numerous occasions he's beat the living crap out of the women in his life, I doubt he'd have been ditched by United, let alone been ferreting around looking for a club to take him had United's lawyers not come to an 'agreement' with the women involved.

    I don't know whether Giggs has beaten up women as there haven't been any confirmed reports or action taken against him on that subject so I think that's a poorly chosen example. Perhaps a better example would be Liverpool's support of Suarez the convicted racist? Would Kenny Dalglish have dragged his reputation and that of Liverpool into the gutter to support a player of lesser talent? Probably not.

    Suarez hasn't been convicted of anything, that applies to criminal offences determed by a court of law e.g. Eric Cantona convicted for assault, Callum Flanagan & Mads Timm convicted for street racing

    <ok>

    There is the legal usage of "convict" and there is the non-legal usage of "convict".

    Not sure where Giggs fits into it all though, you'll have to ask Donga Darko who seems to have the inside track on Giggs's private life!
