That structure was partly designed to help account for Adams' inexperience, I don't think it will be too much of an impediment. Every club has a CEO, every club has a Cheif Scout and the techniq Director role is fairly acceptable really. The football board can easily agree to ceed a level of autonomy to the new manager.

While I'm sure you're right that's partly true, I think the way they were setting things up and what was specifically stated was that the Manager would have much more limited responsibilities. That was before Adam's appointment. I also think it's sensible - lots of clubs are splitting roles out. There are lots of old (and not so old) school managers who would simply not accept this.
It also makes a lot more sense when we live in a hire'em fire'em world for football managers. If we're going to jettison them regularly, it's better to jettison someone who doesn't ahve quite so much power and responsibility.
So now they've set up this way, which I'm positive is the future, I'm not sure they'll want to cede that power quite so readily...

Just a thought..I wonder if there has ever been a manager who went after a run of five games,three of them away (One to a title aspirant),that yielded ten points and 15 goals for and 6 agin.
There is a flexibility in the set up is what I'm saying. Mostly we have just formalised a structure that most clubs use anyway. It's the Technical director that takes some responsibility from the manager, but it's more functional stuff and definitely not the sort of thing that a new manager coming in half way through the season needs to distract him.
The restrictions that would be off putting would be the scouting and recruiting that can be softened fairly easily.
I do like the set up, it means we don't lose knowledge when the manager leaves, a problem organisations have, but the way it was designed was clearly also designed to protect Adams somewhat. McNally is a clever man he wouldn't let the structure prevent us from getting the right man.
Sorry I wasn't clear - I wasn't disagreeing with you, but I do think your key point "he wouldn't let the structure prevent us from getting the right man", while absolutely right becuase no doubt McNally would be flexible, is also begging the question as to what would be regarded as "the right man". My feeling is that while the Board may well be very flexible, the "right man" still won't be a man wanting to have as extensive powers and responsibilities as Hughton. And I'm positive that they were less flexible in the summer, when they considered the "right man" to be someone who was prepared to let go of a lot. They may well be a little less rigid now given the result...
It's a quibbling little point though
. Basically I think we are agreeing that the new structure is a good idea as long as it accounts for managers with good potential albeit that a lot of it was designed to help Adams. I'm confident that it is the sort of thing that more and more clubs will be doing over the next decade.
Well the board well and truly messed that one up. Adam's was way out of his depth, when he was being interviewed you didn't have to be great at reader of people to noticed that, I always got the feeling he wasn't even convinced himself when we won he looked lost and confused. In fairness his done the honourable thing resigning but yet we have another ex player as a fall guy for the board.
In the summer we had the perfect formula to go up we just need the right person motivate and unlock the potential of the squad, the board has well and truly ****ed it up big time, it also makes me question their past appointments, in recent months I've often asked the question was Lambert just a lucky gamble that paid off? I can't knock McNally for balancing the books but some of the decisions of late have been utterly calamitous.
In all honesty we can get the greatest manager in the world, they need to motivate a seriously under-performing team, you can dress it up as much as you want getting us into the top spots is going to be an uphill task.

So it's tha board's fault that subsequent managers proved to be unlucky? You can't blame them for both aspects!
I would assume that most posters were totally "underwhelmed" when Lambert was appointed.
I suppose the new manager will be judged on whether we end up above or below 7th place. At least he takes over a healthy squad without all the injuries that Adams has had to deal with up to now.
