Queens Park Rangers are in talks to sign Mauro Zárate and Ryan Manning but a deal for Jermain Defoe is currently likely to flounder on Toronto FC’s demand for a transfer fee.
QPR are primarily interested in adding players on loan this month and, on top of Defoe’s wages, are not willing to pay a further fee for the former England international.
Leicester City are also hoping to sign the 32-year-old, with Harry Redknapp now moving onto other attacking targets.
The Loftus Road club had been close to doing a deal for Defoe in the summer transfer window but, despite reaching an outline agreement, Toronto would not release him immediately.
The form of Charlie Austin has slightly eased the pressure on Redknapp to add another striker but potential deals for both Zárate and Manning have been progressing.
Zárate would join on loan from
West Ham United for the immediate relegation battle while Manning, an 18-year-old from Galway, is regarded as a prospect for the longer term.
