Well done Terry, this is a rugby city lets keep outsiders out.
Hull City Council has turned down the chance to host one of Britain's biggest cycle races â but Bridlington will welcome a stage.
The first Tour de Yorkshire international cycle race will be held next year, following the success of this summer's Tour de France Grand Depart.
Organisers had hoped Hull would play a major part in the event, but the city council said "budget constraints" meant it had to pass.
Councillor Terry Geraghty, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: "The council endeavours to support major events in the city, and we do wish the organisers every success, but due to budget constraints and the level of funding that would be needed, on this occasion we're just not able to."
The race, organised by Amaury Sport Organisation, which runs the Tour de France, and Welcome to Yorkshire, and supported by British Cycling, will be broadcast live on national TV and throughout Europe.
Bridlington will join Leeds, Scarborough, Selby, Wakefield and York in hosting the race, from May 1-3 next year.
Councillor Stephen Parnaby, leader of East Riding Council, said: âHosting a major sporting event will have untold benefits for the whole county in terms of tourism and boosting the local economy and the council will make every effort to capitalise on this.â
Organisers said Hull had expressed an interest in being part of the race in 2016.
David Hooper, from the Hull and Humber Chamber of Trade, who is also a keen cyclist, said: âIt is disappointing nothing is coming to Hull, but we hope we will be able to host a stage in the future.
âAny major sporting event raises the profile of the city and brings revenue to the city. It is a shame for Hull to miss out.â
Full route details will be revealed on January 21 next year.
