We need one top class DM first and foremost. Lucas could be a good back up but he's on big wages, old and has no legs.
If Lucas was to be sold in the January window, we'd better have a better replacement lined up and based on our transfer activity in the summer this would be a criminal mistake. Like him or not Lucas brings balance in the midfield area. What Lucas is good at and people fail to see is he has a knack of getting away with repeated fouls during a game without getting a yellow. This helps in destroying the rhythm of the other team. It is no surprise that since he came back to the main team we have conceded less goals and the moment he is left out there has been a gaping hole. We cannot risk going with Gerrard for the remainder of the season with the prospect of the Europa League coming up #toomanygames I'd keep him till the summer and hope the committee has someone better lined in place.
Big wages...? Is he...? How do you know this? I'd say we keep him until we no longer need him. Signing a single quality DM doesn't do that.
Our form has clearly improved since Lucas was reinstated into the team. If you want some one sold after they make a positive impact then you must be a wum.
He's not the first player I would like sold. And yes - he has restored balance to this team. But that's not saying much - he stands out in a poor team. He always has done. Personally, there are others I would have out before Lucas.
According to this page he earns roughly the same as Toure and Sakho but less than a lot of the squad. http://www.sportrichlist.com/football/liverpool-players-salaries/
I don't want to see Lucas sold and at the moment I don't think he should be but he is part of the old regime too (see previous theory somewhere)
Completely agree with you. My reasoning behind selling him is based on the fact that we wont have much money to play with in January so we need to sell players to raise as much funds as possible. Lucas is a target for Inter and we could get good money for him. I rather we sell Lucas and secure a better DM, than keep him and lose out on the target. IF we can afford the DM without having to sell him, then good.
But you don't sell a key player (whether you like it or not, Lucas is) before buying a replacement. See Andy Carroll for more info
Our priorities for January will be a striker and keeper. God point. - I'm concerned by the lists of goal keepers we are being linked with and Rodgers choosing to play Jones. We should only sign a keeper if they are definitely better and more commanding than both Mignolet and Jones. I really have my doubts that players like Ochoa, Valdez and Ruddy are any better and am certain they are not top 4 standard. I'd rather not rush the decision and sign crap. If the right keepers not available we must wait. But if Rodgers is willing to play Jones it suggests he has already given up on Mignolet and would prefer any keeper on earth to him right now.
fixed, dont need to bring jones into it as he should be off regardless (cheap ass wages i bet!!!!), what we need is better than migs to help motivate him to improve, as he is still young enough we can get the rewards hopefully, should have kept reina really.(wages again i bet!)
This. He was blowing hard towards the end of the match yesterday, there was one particular move shown on MOTD where he just didn't have the lungs to get to the ball. Needs to be doing more and harder cardio, reckon I'm fitter than him at the moment.
Replace him before you sell him. We had that problem in the summer in that we sold Suarez then never replaced him. Get your targets in then sell off the weaker members of the team Lucas is at the moment the best DM we have... He should be kept until we have an improvement on him.
