That is fair comment <ok> But how highly would you rate finishing top 4? If we had won the league cup last season and finished 7th while you had stormed to 2nd but won nothing, who would have had the more successful season?

I guess it comes down to what you choose and the expectations of the club you support. If I'm a Newcastle fan and they won the league cup but finished 7th I'd say that's a successful season. As a Man Utd fan and dare I say for Liverpool fans, it wouldn't be underachievement. Top 4 is a prerequisite to any success. It's sad to say it, pathetic even, but the reality of the modern game.

A certain German corporal in 1940 had the same bright idea that he could go on to win too. He had beaten French, Belgian, dutch and Polish opposition, but then lost in the semi's to England.

Tbh I think it's also a combination of your league position and your trophies.

If you finish 7th and win the league cup I'd say you have had a worse season than a club that finishes 2nd or 3rd. If you finish 5th and win the league cup, I'd say you have had a better season than a club that finishes 4th. CL qualification is only really important for money purposes, but a gap of four or five positions in the league is an important measure of a season.

Also largely depends on the following season - us winning no trophies and finishing 2nd in 2011/12 was a better season than Liverpool winning no trophies and finishing 2nd last year as our season acted as a springboard to win the league the following year, whilst Liverpool's represented the peak of their team and they now need to rebuild for a few more years if they are to stand a chance of ever winning the league again. So I think our season this year can only be judged in the context of what we achieve or don't achieve next season.

Good result for us. Although I always want the RS to lose pragmatically this result is better for united. Keeps arsenal at arms length after our draw.

Also the good thing is that Rodgers will not be fired. The RS fans think he is not that bad after all even though his team's performance was as s**t as arsenal's. Two s**t teams scrapping away. <laugh>

19 games to catch the hammers. I reckon 1st 2nd and 3rd won't change except maybe Chelsea dropping to 2nd by the end, with you lot in 3rd.

4th place still up for grabs.

Unreasonable with how we'e been playing so far but you gotta aim for something :D Rodgers said we'd improve in the second half of the season, we are improving, still **** but not as **** as before

Actually 21 games to catch the hammers. And to catch Southampton, Arsenal, Spurs, Swansea, and Newcastle. Can't see you overhauling all six of them, even with porcelain Sturridge back in the side.

Your chances of getting into the top four are about the same as us winning the league - mathematically possible, but practically next to impossible.

The Hammers are in 4th, if that changes then we'll be chasing whomever is in there. Not that I think we'll catch them.

As for you league comments. If Chelsea lose Costa to injury and City lose Silva and Aguero for a long spell, plus you get people returning from injury it could blow it wide open, the trick is to stay in the hunt in case that happens.

Same for us, Spurs are not realistically going to make it, neither are the hammers, imo it's Arsenal we'd be chasing IF IF we can manage to hang around close to them.

Can't see it myself but there's half a season to go, 2 months ago everyone was all "Chelsea have this wrapped up" now people are saying City will catch them, because City hung in there and Chelsea dropped 5 points in a week. One week an change the outlook a lot. just as two united defeats in a week could see you in 7th. Fine margins

At least it's worth it odds wide to throw a few quid on united winning the league if you're a betting man :D

^ Shockingly poor that. Gibbs left his position on the post as well.

They were playing 10 men and for some reason decided to drop off into their own box and allow Liverpool to press, it was awful from Arsenal, they're lacking a leader on the pitch for me.

And have been for the past decade imo.

Wonder if there are any stats for the last decade to show number of points dropped from winning positions in the last ten minutes. I reckon stattonaut could find a few.

Said this on their board a while back and was absolutely slated for it <laugh>. Apparently they have some of the best in the league.

That 'big ****ing german' chant gets more and more cringey by the week.

I said this also as well as pointing out their shocking defensive organisation. Look at their game v united. One back all game. Insane tactics and the sign of a manager who lacks respect for his opponents.

Their board is infested with petulant arseholes who jump on anyone who opposes their views. I couldn't believe the reaction I got when I said it, despite it being the Arsenal board.

Arsenal have got some of the biggest flutes in the league following them.

They have a massive sense of entitlement and whine like bitches if they're not challenging at the pinnacle of the game "I payz £1500 for me season ticket innit" (and then sublet my seat to the highest bidder for half the ****ing season btw)

Apart from Sanchez they are a very average team.

I got a similar response from a few of them when I did a massive Essay on why they will never compete at the top again whilst Wenger is in charge.
In fairness though, one or two of the more sane ones, actually agreed with what I said.
