I think the Clarkson shout is an interesting one because he is a fan of F1 but also I think that he could maybe do it, he has done some documentaries when he has been serious and in parts of Top Gear as well and even just the interviews in Top Gear shows that he is capable doing a good interview. The more I think about it the more I am liking it. However I do not expect it to happen.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/2011/07/lewis_hamiltons_frustration_wi.html Another unreadable pile of tripe. I got a few lines in, and was already sick of all the speculating and rumour mongering. As a journalist, he should deal in facts, and leave all the speculation to us, the fans. How does the BBC pick these people? To the mods, could you make this thread a sticky please, it looks like it's going to be visited fairly often as the season continues...
Ok, so the BBC are not infalable and make a few errors now and again, but the BBC coverage is vastly preferrable to that of the ITV. Although I do think the BBC are not fully commited to F1 and consider it not really worthy of the cost and an elitist sport.
I have no real issues with the TV coverage, though jake and ej can sometimes irritate me. It's those f*cking bloggers that do my head in. I check the BBC for news, not speculation. Also, how much does Benson love Hamilton. I'm going to try and organise a romantic weekend for the pair of them, and steal benson's job whilst he's away with his "bum chum" as we say in wales.
It is not the errors that annoy me it is Benson and his Hamilton propaganda that annoy me. I mean he has said "Hamilton is regarded as the fastest driver in F1" on more than one occasion and it is just complete and utter BS, he declares it like it is common knowledge and can't even be bothered to attempt at backing it up he just leaves it like a statement of fact. I mean where does he even get that notion from? Hamilton is fast but has he won the most championships? No, is he leading the championship at the moment? No, is he even beating his team mate? No, did he get voted best driver by other drivers and team principles? No. Hamilton is fast but there are other drivers who you could make an argument for being quicker. So for him to say that Hamilton is regarded as the fastest driver like it is gospel is not just putting false words in a lot of other people's mouths it is also just such blatant favouritism from a man who is getting paid by the tax payer to at least try to give us a balanced, insightful view on F1 but instead sprouts generic, yellow journalistic garbage while painting his driver preferences clear across his 'articles' does annoy me a tad.
I understand your passionate revolt Mifune but I can only tell you that it is true that Hamilton is indeed widely regarded as the fastest driver and the best over all racer on the planet. I suppose, like Benson, I am saying something which I believe to be common knowledge but is impossible to 'back up' in the manner you would like (or probably dislike to see). If you have a commonly held belief, you might find it equally difficult to convince someone who does not already agree. I must add that I am trying to be objective and that I do not 'support' him (or any other driver) and have often made strong cases for others over the course of a weekend or race, particularly Button, Vettel and Alonso this season. But if there is such a thing as a 'commonly held belief', the above description is indeed applicable to Hamilton. - It's 'common knowledge' amongst those 'in the know'. I hope this makes sense because it is an impossible thing to pin down. If most people are religious, a non-religious person is unlikely to ever agree with such a majority, regardless of any ultimate truth either way.
if you ask the drivers, Fernando Alonso is fastest, if you ask the pundits, Seb Vettel is fastest. I don't remember Hamilton's name cropping up once. Sorry Benderson, it's time for your propaganda machine to be locked away.
Kobayashi is a better racer than Hamilton. Fernando alonso is better as an all rounder, sebastian vettel is faster than Hamilton, and jenson button is a better strategist than hamilton.
I believe you are being objective Cosi because I do think you are a very fair and balanced poster (apart from you irrational hatred towards Hulkenberg ) but I have not heard anyone in F1 say Hamilton is the best/fastest driver in F1, usually they just go on about the top tier of drivers (Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel) which is another thing I have a bit of a problem with but that is for another day. Indeed did not Alonso get voted the best driver by both his peers and the team principles? I am not saying Alonso is the best driver, although in my opinion he is but I still would not try and say that he is generally regarded as the best driver in F1 because I am aware that it is just my opinion, some people will have the same opinion as me other will not, but there is not a driver who is so clearly the best that anybody can say they are regarded as being the best. I take umbrage with the statement that Hamilton is regarded as the fastest driver in F1 not because I disagree with the view that Hamilton is the fastest driver (although I do) but because of the lack of evidence to support that declaration, I can't remember anyone in F1 saying that Hamilton alone is the fastest driver in F1, if everyone was saying that then fine, I still would not agree with it because I am capable of forming my own opinions but I would not take issue with the validity of the statement. Such as inexplicably most people think George Clooney is a good actor and if someone said "it is regarded by most people that George Clooney is a good actor" then I would disagree with them that he is good actor but I would not have a problem with the statement that most people think he is a good actor because they could provide loads of reviews and what-not claiming thus.
He can only 'act' two types of roles and he recycles them for every film he does. He is he most inflexible, unoriginal, uninspiring, overrated actor ever.
When I clicked on this thread the last thing I expected to see was "is George Clooney a good actor". Anyway, as you where
I agree with Ben Affleck, although how much is he even rated? But Brad Pitt? I think he was immense in Fight Club, The Assassination of Jesse James, Seven, 12 Monkeys, Benjamin Button, Inglourious Basterds. He is one of my favourite actors. But each to their own I guess.
I liked him in fight club, but since then his films (apart from that benjamin button one) seem to be crap.
Hahaha, I sympathise with you both (except about hating Hulkenberg: I don't hate anyone - not even Schumacher). Ultimately we are left with our own opinions; which are formed from our own impressions; which are in turn, inevitably coloured by our own prejudices. And it is true that the opinion one forms in the paddock may differ from the person one speaks to. - 'Popular' journalism is no different and lives or dies by the audience it reaches (as well as the hand that pays for it), just like the words we read in a forum.
As much as I criticise Hamilton for his lack of support skills and questionable decisions there's no doubt in my mind that given the car he would blow everyones doors off in a head to head F1 race. A bit more patience and he would've won Cananda by a country mile.
