We really are **** at the moment. It gives me absolutely no pleasure whatsoever to say so, but I call a spade a spade. I think one of the big problems is a lack of leadership on and off the pitch. Questionable tactics off and poor organisation on.
I think we just don't have the right mix. An inexperienced manager and a load of players who probably think that they're too good for this division. Look at Derby and Ipswich for example, seasoned Championship campaigners.
I don't need to 'read a match report' of the game. I know exactly what I saw! The most disorganised, pathetic home performance for years against a mediocre Reading side who will be hard pushed to finish anywhere near the top half this season. Despite all our possession and shots (of which only about four were good chances), the visitors were in total control of the game 2nd half and deservedly ran out victors. An absolute shambles today, simply not good enough
I was gobsmacked by the lack of pressing when we don't have the ball. Our players look like they can't be arsed. Amazing. I don't what else to say. Is it too early to start looking down rather than up?
The defence imo has been missing Ryan Bennett for a few weeks now due to his unfortunate injury, I think once he is fully-fit he should come straight back into the side, alongside either Turner or Hoolveld with Martin & Olsson as Full-backs. Too many schoolboy errors are being made by the back 4, we need him back asap, we cannot keep on taking the lead, only to throw it away like we've done today and against Brighton & Forest in recent weeks. We need to learn how to kill the opposition off before they score, a 1 goal lead is never good enough when it only takes a few seconds for the opposition to score.
Don't forget, adams wasn't picking Ryan Bennett earlier in the season. His first start of the season was cut short by injury at ipswich. Whilst I'd play him, what makes people so sure he'd walk straight into the team under Adams?
Totally agree with Jedi's comments about Bennett. Our defence is an absolute joke! They can all **** right off. I know a lot of you on here love to lick Russell Martin's arsehole but the guys an absolute ****cunt! Where is the leadership in the team? It's non existent!
No worries about that mate, fair play for having an opinion too. Que dramatic I'm going to leave the forum posts....
The thing i find most frustrating is we spend £1.5m on miquel who got promoted with leicester last year and he hasn't played at all. What was the point? Surely he'd be a more natural foil for Turner.
Out of interest do you include Michael Turner in your earlier statement? You won't find me arguing that Whittaker is incompetent and Olsson looks nothing like he did last season or that Martin isn't cut out to be a great CB but in my opinion Turner has hardly put a foot wrong since sometime in 2012!
Turner looks a bit lost, but christ the guy is having to bail out four other players who are not performing in my opinion, once Bennett comes back I think things will be OK in the centre back department. As Billy has highlighted I don't know what the deal is with the back up defenders, but it's not just the back four that are causing the problems, I find our defensive midfielders a tad indecisive sometimes.
I saw it mentioned on twitter after the match that Turner used to play in the right CB role with Bassong / whoever on the left. This season. he's kind of shunted from one side to the other to accommodate whoever Adams thinks will be the magic formula this week. In a way, that's as far from ideal as playing Martin, ostensibly a RB, at CB. If he is trying every single permutation until he finds one that works, it would be worth somebody pointing out that we only have 46 games this season.
Martin either needs to play a RB or not at all. Having said that the reason we are dropping so many points is our inability to take the chances we are creating.
Not sure I agree with that, we've conceded five goals in our last two home games against teams in the bottom half.
That's a big concern for me, does Adams have any idea what his best line-up is? Or even what formation suits us? With the possible exception of Howson, we've either got defensive midfielders or attacking ones, nobody else is particularly well rounded. In a 4-4-2 neither central midfielder feels comfortable going forwards, and if they do they aren't doing it in an effective/intelligent manner. For me this is why we've got to play 4-2-3-1. Then Tettey, Johnson and O'Neill are in a more natural role, and we've got Howson, Wes or Vadis (when fit) in a dedicated central attacking role. It worked early on in the season, but injuries and cluelessness has meant we've lost our way. When Adams came in, most people agreed that he talked a good game on the radio and saw things in the same way the fans did, so if things weren't working then at least he'd be likely to have some support. But the formation, the situation in defence, the way Hooper was absent for a long while, etc would kind of disagree with that. Can anyone understand what he's trying to do?
Totally agree with you on the formation, with that central midfield role I feel neither of the so called defensive midfielders have really taken ownership of that role. That's the problem all Adam's does is talk, I can't rationalise his thought process, his all over the place for an example watch his press interviews the guy is like a rabbit in the headlights.
Lucky old Ipswich, getting dominated in every game....if that leaves you a point off the top I think we will take that for now!
