    Fair enough, I never knew the rule applied to free kicks as well as goal kicks. <ok>

    Just had a look at the Liverpool board. This was particularly amusing:

    From one poster:
    "Southampton making Rodgers look like a right ****ing **** tbh"

    Another poster:
    "Think they did that in the Summer. £49m on three players, one who never plays, one who was way over priced and one who is just ****."

    <laugh>

    "For both direct and indirect freekicks, the ball must be stationary when the kick is taken and the kicker must not touch the ball again until it has touched another player."

    Yes, except for when they're taken in your own penalty area.

    I know the same player can't kick it twice but in that case an indirect free kick is awarded. Mike Dean ordered a retake as the ball hadn't left the penalty area.

    Yes, I get that. What I'm wondering is why the "not leaving the penalty area" rule superceded the "same player can't kick it twice" rule.

    2 more dropped points for Man City. 4 points ahead of them now. :1980_boogie_down:

    Yep. That we're going to play a game on the final day of November where the narrative is "an important game for Manchester City as they try to catch/close the gap on Southampton" takes some getting used to. That the narrative thereafter could be "Southampton extended their lead over Manchester City to 7 (heh, or 9, or 10, depending on their tussle with Swans)" is something that I'll need three weeks to wrap my head around.
