best hold up player in the squad and can't get a game at wolves ? He has had the occasional decent game but drifts out to the wings too often, his size makes you think he would be the ideal hold up man, sadly he isn't
Looks like Brucies (or our scouts?) blind spot....Proschwitz, Graham, Sagbo. Defenders/Mid-Fielders he's hardly put a foot wrong. If Wolves can't find more than 10 minutes of playing time for Sagbo that's a pretty big confirmation of how ineffective he is. Maybe we should hire the guy from Scunnie who found all their strikers
Not saying sagbo is great and he definitely will not score many goals. However he is the best striker in the squad at making the ball stick at the other end. It is obvious that Hernandez requires someone to play off. Whilst, sagbo may not provide goals, he may allow Hernandez to play more of his own game. And at the moment we have no striking option off the bench. If deffo bring him back.
I caught up with a lad I went to uni with a few days ago, a Wolves supporter for many years, and I asked him why Sagbo hadn't featured more. Wolves only play with one striker and that striker is Bakary Sako. Sagbo was only brought in as cover while another striker (possibly Sako himself, but I think he said it was Nouha Dicko) was recovering from injury. He said they're quite impressed with him, but they were never going to drop their top scorer for some loanee, which is fair enough. He also mentioned the drifting wide problem, which suggests it's more him not listening to instructions rather than a sheer lack of footballing ability. So it's not a case of him not being good enough for the Championship (which is bollocks anyway) as far as I can tell, it's obviously his opinion but he uses a few of their forums so I'm guessing his opinion is based on what others have said. As OLM said, I'd rather have him here as our striking options are few and far between. His hold up play might actually suit Abel's style if he's so reliant on having a second striker on the field.
He is at Wolves on an 'emergency' loan as 'second fiddle' to Sako and has had a 'handful' of minutes play over 4 games so cannot possibly be judged. At Monaco B and Evian he played in 152 games and scored 40 goals - a stat of about 1 goal in every 4 games. At Monaco A he failed to score in 19 games and has scored 2 goals with us from 28 appearances. He was 'surplus to requirements' but nobody came in for him. So was George Boyd who was sold to Burnley. Nobody has come in for Aluko who is a 'dead man walking' here. I am sure that Steve Bruce is looking at this unforeseen situation. Whether we are entitled to an 'emergency' loan or not I don't know but until Jelly is back we are 'dead in the water' up front.
Interesting to put Sagbo, Aluko and Boyd together, it looked like Boyd always put in a good shift running around and doing stuff. Aluko and sagbo no doubt have some talent and skill, but appear at times to be on a casual stroll around a park hoping for a moment of magic. Maybe this is why we managed to sell Boyd for a profit and the other two are still with us.
Jackett in the local rag down there this morning, saying how disappointed he is regards Sagbo and that he cant see him getting into the wolves team anytime soon, also says in the article that Hull opted against recalling him after 28days loan period was up even though they have Jelavic out injured ,looks like Sagbo's time with city is coming to an end.
I think the only reason we didn't recall him, is because we only have Burnley to play before the international break and Jelavic is expected to be back after that. I thought Jackett was quite honest in that interview, he said Sagbo needed game time and as they'd been losing games, he couldn't afford the luxury of giving him that game time with them.
Sure he is bro, sure he is. Meanwhile, in the real world, he continues to be a good footballer who ISN'T on the transfer/loan list. Nobody has come in for him because he isn't available to loan. You need to relax on the striker situation, you're a man obssessed. We'll be looking at one in the January window, but if we're going to play with just one up front (3-5-1-1) anyway, how many strikers should the squad have? With Jelavic injured, we play with an out and out striker (Hernandez) and an AM, like Ramirez, Ben Arfa or Aluko. When Jelavic is back, Hernandez will probably drop back into the 'shadow' striker role. If we can't shift Sagbo in January, we might as well keep him as cover. We just spent over £30m in the last transfer window, we aren't going to be splashing out in the next one. I can see us loaning a striker in from abroad as cover, but I highly doubt we'll buy one.
Sagbo is better than nothing. End of. We now have nobody who can hold the ball up! I think Bruce is a great manager, but recently he has been doing strange things, playing ince and ben arfa out of position upfront is pure crazy! and letting your striker go is madness! ...he needs to get a formation sorted to suit his players and get hernandez and sagbo back up front! aluko is a class act on the wing, so is ben arfa! ...but he coninues sticking them up front! ....he's annoying me now, coz he's making a simple thing look hard!
