Re Murray and Henman. Get a grip you lot, getting to No 2 and 4 in the world is not exactly crap, Newspapers/media unrealistically raising expectations! Also the numbers 1,2 and 3 are not too bad, Federer and Nadal arguably being amongst the best EVER, Novak is getting there. Murray is a wee bit unlucky that he is up against this lot. If you cannot accept this, then you know absolutely sweet FA, a fairly typical Plymothian attitude.
Murray, seeded at 4 actually reached the semis which proves the seeding system is correct, 1 & 2 seeds are in the final. Nicky I think you will find that Djokovic has improved his game this year and in fact has now taken Federer's place as the 2nd best player in the world. On Monday (whatever Sunday's result) Djokovic will be given #1 seed.
Mrs R, sorry about the rant, I really didn't want to be offensive, but it seriously miffs me about some people's description of failure and rubbish! Djokovic is indeed some player and as for Nadal, I cannot think of many if not any player that could get anywhere near him yesterday, let alone take a set off him! I think Murray's problem is 90% mental, he certainly has all of the shots. Oh and he is not a cuddly, smiley character, but a spikey Scotsman, which irritates everybody south of the border. Nadal said yesterday that Murray is the best player he has ever seen, not to have won a grand slam, I think I would attach more significance to his opinion rather than say Sensibles!! For the record I don't think you were being offensive Nicky. It irks me somewhat also how moaning Brits - especially the english (in Murray's case)taking pleasure from rubbishing the best sportsmen/women we have. Murray is a quality player there is little doubt about that. People just love to pick up on comments the press have greatly exaggerated, so what if he is a proud Scotsman? Why on earth wouldn't he be proud of his roots, particularly given the fact he has taken away the negativity surounding his home town of Dunblane. Good luck to Andy I say.
When you consider the millions of pounds that the LTA pour into the game from such events as Wimbledon then..........you wonder if british players have deficiencies such as.........only one leg........only one arm......only one eye.........no skill.........no backbone. Tennis in this country is CLASS orientated........public school..........private tennis clubs,with membership if your one of us.........if you drink your Pimms the correct way..........cucumber sandwiches (with the crust cut off ,of course)...........to play the jolly old game,remember it's the playing not the winning thats important. Recent years have added one more problem in schools..........the little dears must not be traumertized by competitiveness in case it scars them for life. You don't want to be scarred by being a winner,just not sporting you know,with all that competing you might spill your Pimms when you grow up, and then be asked to leave the club, we dont need your type here you know................we got on very nicely for the last 70 years since that Fred Perry took the game so seriously. Yes I do have strong cynical views about the game before you tell me to get off the fence. Two facts........ 1 )..........Tim Henman.....background........rich middle class up-bringing......dedicated parents helped him to achieve. 2 )..........Andy Murray.....background........Dedicated tennis oriented mother......saw the possibilities in her son and as a youngster got him away from british tennis to a spanish tennis academy,for education and tennis development..........most of the players he competes against he knows from those early years of development.....not everyones idea of a balanced childhood.......Murray seems to have coped with that life style and by the way.........the money is quite good.
Yup Plymborn, spot on. The Williams Sister's were brought up in the worst area of Los Angeles, Jimmy Connors on the wrong side of the tracks in St Louis. Champions one and all, if they had been born in the UK, anywhere near a tennis court NEVER mind a tennis club they would have been shot on sight. so much for pushy parents eh!! Remember being in Austria about 20 years ago, on a little train journey from Meyerhofen about 30 miles down the valley, in each village there seemed to be an indoor tennis facility (along with other sports) - In Austria for goodness sake!!! Didn't some Socialist Councils ban egg and spoon races??? AAAAAGGGGGHHHHH
Why.........because it's not fare on eggs or because every child hasn't got a silver spoon. Three legged race........ban it...........cos it aint fare for the rest of us who have only got two legs.
I believe he was in the next classroom but was able to see some of what was going on through an ajoining window...then again this could be the press exagerating again. Regardless of this he took a negative and turned it into a positive and all he seems to get from the press and the english (yes I am English!) is negativity. Plymborn, you are right a lot of the problems in British tennis stems from snobbery and also the lack of it being played in schools.
Look folks, you can take anyone's opinion of Tennis rather than mine. I really really don't mind one jot. I don't like Tennis. That is any Tennis and not even if the players played naked. I could not care less if a Brit won Wimbledon every year or never. Like a number of sports it is a rich persons game and until the class system is kicked out of it then we probably will never get anywhere. No other Country would be so selective in who plays something. In America if you are any good then somebody somewhere picks you up and pays for you to be better. Loads of other Countries are the same but not good old Blighty. My Mrs used to work in a small shop and said that they should pick some of the shop lifters for the 100 metres races as they were bloody faster than anything she had ever seen. In America they would arrest them first and then send them to a University on an Athletics scholarship. But I digress, I state again I simply don't like Tennis and therefore don't care who wins what. Just as an aside, there were loads of other people in that School along with Murray so he is nothing special just because he may have witnessed something horrible. People live with tragedies every single day so in my book that doesn't even register in his favour.
Jeeeez sensible, you are moaning again! 1. No one asked if you were interested in tennis. The bar is open for off topics as well as the footy. 2. If there were a moaning championship you would definately win it for GB 3. I don't think Murray asked for any special treatment given he may/may not have witnessed a tragedy.

Mrs Reid I was chided about taking somebodies opinion on the matter of Tennis rather than mine. ergo, in this free society I took the trouble to reply rather than ignore. Now, for the ill informed that is not a moan it is a reply. I also took the time to reply to the Murray/Dunblane thing. Again not a moan just an observation/opinion. Just because somebody doesn't like something does not mean they are "moaning" if they venture an opinion which lambasts your precious game of preference. Neither did I mention that others should not discuss their alternative sport either. Again, therefore not a moan. You do need to learn to differenciate between opinion and moaning. So as a start, men give opinions which are mostly well considered whereas women moan mostly constantly if considered opinions are expressed which differ from their own or they can't find a bag to match their shoes. I take it as my personal quest to educate you in the art of opinion as opposed to moaning and you have been warned.
fair enough sensible but any post that begins with "look folks" includes "i couldn't care less" and "I don't care who wins what" looks suspiciously like a moan to me but I bow to your superior knowledge.
p.s. and also Mrs Reid you are not allowed to moan even about moaning during the happy hour so off you go to the naughty step.
