Agree with this sentiment, especially about Berahino. As a rival fan (not wumming), it's always been comforting to see Liverpool packing their team with players just below the standard expected to be challenging consistently for Top 4 or even the title. For me a club like Liverpool is doing less than half the job. They have good home-grown talent that emerges on a regular basis. You also buy the ocassional bit of quality e.g. Torres, Alonso, Suarez. But you also need to regularly buy a number of "ready-made" first team players, not necessarily world-class like the 3 I've just mentioned above, but those capable of holding their own against the best teams in the league. NOT do what you've been doing for the last 20+ years - a girth of squad players and expect them to play like said "ready-made" first teamers. A typical example I can point to is your complete disregard for buying a decent winger for as long as I can remember (instead opting for those very squad players like Pennant or Riera) or not bringing in a quality CB in more than 5 years to replace stalwarts like Hypia and Carragher. And I don't believe Liverpool can't attract top players, ofcourse they can, I think it's just pure bad judgement or planning on the club/manager's part.

Nah, you've hit the nail on the head there Treble. This has been a sore point (with me anyway and I'm assuming most other fans) for years. I don't know if its down to a failure in our scouting and identifying talent, if we've had bad luck with players flattering to deceive, or if it's lack of ambition from the club. For a good few seasons now we've been a side with one or two genuine world class players and a shed load of middle of the road for the rest.

Berahino is just flavour of the month right now. If we bought him I imagine he'd be under so much pressure and scrutiny that it would most likely ruin what he's got now. Bizarrely I think if he went to City say, there'd be less pressure on him as he'd be going into a team full of quality, so he would have more chance of pushing on and making the most of his talents. This is the problem with Liverpool we're heaping expectation and pressure onto anyone who comes to play for us because we've been in the doldrums so long. As fans we all crave trophies immediately, especially the league.

Completely agree. so many players like that. Remember when Michu was worth £25m <doh>

I said numerous times on here that we shouldn't go near him despite quite a few wanting us to go for him. He started turning **** in that first season with Swansea after they won the League Cup. Last season he was non-existent and now he's been shipped out on loan to Napoli. Not exactly young either; 28 and will be 29 come the end of the season!

well lads its like this... what are his attributes? why is he flavor of the month? A couple goals, something new to look at? but if we dig deeper... whats he got pace? power, types of runs he makes, accurate shots? work rate?

I think in general any player can have a purple patch and look good when new.. papis cisse at newcastle is a good example. I don't know that the lad is all that nor that he isn't. Only time will tell but if he's wise he'll stay put and work hard to show what he can do for a couple more seasons.

If I had a boy of the age and he was lucky enough to be a hot property I'd strongly advise against too much too soon. A lad like bernahino needs to keep his feet on the ground and focus on smashing 20 odd goals exactly where he is at and making sure he's earning well but not on a deal more than 4 years there so when the times comes to move he will be able for it. Join lfc today and get swallowed up IMO, doubly so for a chelsea or such club.

Yea let him prove it over a good season or two first. It's not like he would be cheap, he's so hyped-up at this minute that he would cost in excess of £20m.; No thanks

I think Berahino is a good young player and I would like us to sign him for the future.

However, I wouldn't be spending over £20m for him because there is far better value out there.

I rather we spend big money on players who are actually at a level which warrants such a price tag (and I'm referring to Lovren and Lallana here). If we're spending £20m on a player, he should be a) better than what we have and b) 1-2 tiers below world class with potential.

Basically if you guys are after him hes world class. Until you sign him and he proves that to be completely wrong.

Take this in the right way UIR but, you're becoming boring now. What happened to putting the effort in?

yeah..... YAWN.... di maria was piss poor v chelsea last weekend. obviously proving he's not a worldie and mario or falcao.... meh both gash.

Spurs v Brighton tonight. Come on your Seagulls!

Sami has gone 6 games without a win and 10 league games since his last win so could do with a boost tonight <ok>

Also Rio has been banned for 3 games for using the word "sket" in a tweet.

Bisc, is Texeira still at Brighton? If so, do you think he'll feature tonight?

Yes and probably.

He's played a bit part recently. Started really well, scoring a couple of goals but he, much like the rest of the team, have found it hard of late. Been on the bench and come on as sub in the last few appearences.

I'd assume he'll start in a bit of a changed team with difficult game away to Bournemouth on Saturday (also on Sky if anyone is interested in watching).

Any reason why the team's been so poor recently?

Brighton? They have no one that can score goals. They've not won in 10 league games but they've drawn 7 of them so missing someone to make that difference upfront. Not really invested a lot of the Ulloa money (O'Grady was brought in and not done well) and Baldock has come in after doing well in League 1 but not been able to make the step up just yet.

Got no goal scoring midfielders with Crofts out injured again now as well (8 of the 13 goal have come from defenders and Dunk (CB) is top scorer with 5).
