Stupid mistake at the start again by Rosberg, then an excellent drive to second but so lucky his primes lasted so unbelievably well. I was hoping he'd make 4th to get Jenson on the podium. Otherwise, not very exciting.
Disappointing the tyres were so bulletproof really, Button (and Mclaren) deserved a podium this weekend for the step they've made in the right direction. If Rosberg had made that mistake at any other race this season he'd never have gotten away with it as he did.
I expect Rosberg will do something rash at the start. I think he is to the point of getting desperate to get back into the championship lead. A few days ago he said it's all or nothing so I think he will throw caution to the wind at the start. But that could get him in lots of trouble with the team as I am sure they want to wrap up the constructors championship tomorrow. So it should be interesting, as he will be between a rock and a hard place. If he beats hamilton off the line then that would be great for him but I doubt he could keep the lead for long as hamilton seems to have the pace and better tyres to start the race on.
I posted the above yesterday... I just had this feeling that Rosberg was going to do something very desperate at the start of the race. Remember his all or nothing statement. In the cool down room he looks really depressed. But he shouldn't be, he did a good recovery...I guess thanks to the new track. I think all the drivers could have used one set of tyres if that was allowed and still do great laps. I also think Rosberg was a little lucky too when he pushed Bottas off that could easily have been an accident there had Bottas not run off track. And Hamilton... He showed mental strength at the start. Didn't do anything desperate just kept his car on track and didn't spoil his tyres. Simple drive but nearly perfect drive.
It was alright at the start, but became absolutely abysmal very quickly. Have yet to see the fuel thing really kick-in... I'm starting to suspect the FIA force the teams to say stuff like that over the radio to liven up proceedings. Has anybody actually ever come close to running out?!
Pirelli are damned if they do and damned if they don't. I don't think anybody would have been able to calculate the tyre behaviour on a new track, but with hindsight they were obviously too conservative.
Good recovery drive from Rosberg but he deserved to be punished a hell of a lot more for that mistake, that was unbelievably stupid.
Race was tedious, livened up mainly by the "apolitical" FOM race director showing no less than three shots of Ecclestone and Putin all chummy together.
Seriously?
Do you actually read your posts?
