Cant understand the reaction to DT's comments, he was being entirely reasonable and even overrated your midfield as far as you were concerned, then you laugh and say it is proof we are all muppets. Us thinking a player wouldnt get into our team need not be seen as an insult, some players suit teams much more than others. We wouldnt play Larsson because we have a player that can do his job in Barton, same as you might argue Cabaye wouldnt get into your side but he would ours. I think a lot of us were commenting negatively about Gardner is we've had a midfielder who only scores goals (or that is his main trait) and he was an absolute passenger in the side, so while Gardner would suit you, he isnt he sort of player we'd play IMO.

Nail on head. As i said on your board the other day re Larsson, it's not his technical ability and overall standing as a footballer that makes him a great signing for us, it's the fact that his set play quality is a massive hole in our arsenal. Sometimes a player who may not be the best player, can bet the best fit for a team. That's where i feel we are getting it right this summer.
Uhh well, they wouldn't, and that's just the truth. We've always had a very strong midfield. It's been out strongest area, so the likes of Larsson and Gardner wouldn't make the first team whilst competing with other midfielders like Barton, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Cabaye (if he turns out as expected), Jonas and so on. Gardner is a good player on a good day, but we're fortunate to have very strong centre mids in Barton and Tiote (and possibly Cabaye) so Gardner wouldn't get a look in the starting 11. As for Dong, he's some kid from the asian league who scored 4 goals in the Asian Cup. How the hell can anyone say that he's 'good enough' to be in our starting 11? The same goes for Wickham. Plus, if we're only playing Ba as a lone striker, of course neither of them would get in as Ba has much more of a pedigree in the EPL and other top leagues in Europe. And I'll say it now before you guys even sign Gibson, he wouldn't be in our first team either. Again, our CM options are too strong. When it coms to O'Shea, it depends if he's a better defender than Stevey Taylor. If so, he'd probably get in.

To be fair id take gardner and maybe larsson as a back up. wickham yes but not at that price and i dont know anything about dong to comment. and no one you have signed would get into our first team (depending on how good this dong is) larsson is no better than joey on the right and joey isnt even a rw. Gardner is good but not as good as Tiote or Barton in the middle, or cabaye maybe? and no were near ben arfa at CAM Dong i dont know and wickam is too young to be near a premier league first team.
I'm afraid I'd pick unknowns like Connor and Dong over known ****e like Loverkrands and Ameobi. Except for the derby, I'd always play Shola in the derby! I agree about the midfield though. Newcastle do have a cracking set of players in the middle of the park.
Its funny but our 'second' team, ripped apart by injuries, still finished the season as top dogs in the NE and now, with the additions of 5 players, we are apparently still not good enough and after they have sold their 2nd top goalscorer? See, this was going pretty smoothly until you turned up. Forgot we had absolutely zero injuries last year as well, how silly of me. Sunderland finished above us because we royally ****ed up and threw away a 3 goal lead in our final game of the season. That's it. So we pounded them once, almost beat them again and only gave up finishing above purely down to our own doing. I'm not too bothered about this seasons results to be honest. I couldn't give a **** about what anyone else thinks. I personally know the real performances and who was the better team. Us.
Not a bad thread, and one thing is true the mags DID have a good midfield last year, the one worrying this is,Chicken wings was mentioned.. Now i personally think he's a good player, and did a good job, but tell me again, where is he now? If i'm not mistaken, he preffered to take a drop in leagues, rather than staying. Tiote will only play half a season, and that leaves Barton (will he still be there) and an unknown snail muncher. So maybe one of our new signings may sneak into their team. Doubt it though, they probably have an unknown tibetan monk super midfield general hidden away somewhere. Maybe he's hiding in the trophy cabinet and no ****er can find him..
