Opened the Evening Standard on the way home from work yesterday and was met with a story about how Bayern are apparently going to try and poach our "unsettled" midfield star Ozil in January. I hate it when newspapers try this crap.
I think as long as he buys some " real quality " in the window ............. we can really push for a title challenge.
i like the bit where he FAILS to sign the players we need , but SUCCEEDS in signing players he doesnt even want . “If I stayed at my home, Welbeck would not be here – that is the truth. "
I thought you meant something else, that Wenger meant if he was in town, he'd never sign Welbeck, which is what I think he means, he'd never have signed Welbeck.
Plenty of rumours that we have been back in talks with Sami Khediras agent over a January move. It also seems Julian Draxler is finally looking to move. Would be very surprised if Wenger doesn't try and sign him. Draxler is an amazing talent but my only concern is that he's primarily an AMF/LWF. Surely a position we have more than enough players in?.. I guess there's always the possibility Wenger plans to turn him into a CF like he did with Van Persie.
Draxler would be a luxury buy, we already have those types in the squad. We should be looking at Khedira as he offers us something we need (upgrade on Arteta and Flamini). Also a CB wouldn't go amiss.
Absolutely agree. I do think Khedira would be perfect for us. He may not be an out and out DM but he still gives us what we lack in midfield. Power and athleticism. The guy is 6'2, strong, quick and still technical enough to play our 'brand' of football. I will say on the Draxler signing. For me Draxler is like a cross between Ibra and RVP. He's tall, elegant, technically perfect and a little bit arrogant. I think he's good enough to play in midfield or upfront but to me he looks more like a striker than a AMF. I could see Wenger going back in for him even though we have other areas we need to strengthen.
Exactly, we need that power in our midfield again. As for Draxler, I wouldn't say no but I feel that Wenger is still finding his best team and bringing in another AM would just make things more difficult for him. Khedira however would slot in and replace whoever.
I've seen loads of rumours again that seem nonsense, things like we're going to spend £55m on Cavani, or that we're going to buy a Italian international LB (can't remember his name soz). Which would be great, but I can't see Wenger buying another striker when he's got Sanchez and Welbeck (both newly bought) and Giroud to come back. Also where would a LB who wants 1st team football fit, when we already have Gibbs and Nacho.
Main rumours I keep seeing reappear are that we have a deal in place for khedira in January and that bayern are looking to buy ozil from us. Bayern can **** right off.
Would it be the end of the world if they were willing to pay a decent amount for Ozil? Draxler rumours don;t excite me, we can keep buying all the talented technical players we like and nothing will change
Yes, I think it'd be ridiculous. I think he's likely the most talented player in our squad. We haven't got the best out of him yet and he has a lot more to offer us. Madrid where reluctant to sell him and bayern appear to be looking at getting him. Mourinho has said ozil is the best number ten in the world. Anyone in football who knows what they are talking about rates ozil very very highly. Is just some of our fans that don't have any patience and are willing to turn on players very quickly. Ozil had a great first season in a new country and we have barely started this one.
No doubting his talent but I don't see where the sudden improvement in his performances is going to come from. He needs space to be effective and aside from the odd game like Villa we don't get it. Maybe if our play was a bit more varied teams wouldn't be able to play 6 CBs against us...
A 'great' season? You're so ridiculously easily pleased. It was a pleasing first season yes, not outstanding but pleasing, and that is due to it being his first season so you can't expect fireworks (although quite why not I don't know... Di Maria has begun like a house on fire so why should Ozil be given slack?). He hasn't looked like a £40m+ player yet. He still could for us as he demonstrated he is top notch at Real. He's shown that high level at times for us but nowhere near consistently. All in all, I really like him but I don't look at him and think, "how would we survive without him?". I think just the fact we signed someone for £40m helped us as much as anything... giving the team belief that we have financial clout and were looking to improve. Anyway, for Ozil... anything £30m+ and I don't really see what the loss would be. The only way I can see him really improving to world class status for us is a change in our play, and that won't happen until Wenger goes.
Ridiculously easily pleased? I've said he had a great first season. I've not gone over the top with superlatives, just gone for a grade above simply "good". His stats are as good as any other number ten in the country last season. He basically has identical stats to David silva last season. If that isn't doing great for a first year in the country then god knows what he'd have to achieve for you to take notice. Add to that his arrival galvanised the entire team and we put in our first title challenge and got our first trophy in years with him as one of our most key players and you'd have to say he's done very well at the start of his career with us. You've even in your reply to me said it's his first season so Can't expect anything too over the top and that you are pleased with his first season. I'm sure your always on the lookout for an argument lol, your post basically agrees with half of what I've said.
