Depends on how much you want to pay? 1884 Dock Street Kitchen is very good but a bit heavy on the wallet. Check them out online

By good do you mean reasonable quality and large portion for low price or is it all about quality and price and quantity don't come in to it?
Everyones idea of good when it comes to restaurants is different.

I know it is not in Hull but went to the Chinese restaurant at Hayton on the A1079 near Pock the other night, won't be going again.
I find 90/95% of Chinese restaurants/takeaways are complete and utter ****e.
The takeaway in the village from whence I came is hands down the best Chinese I've ever had, by an absolute mile, though you do pay for the quality and it's bloody pricey when compared to others.
I think you are right, the best Chinese restaurant I have been to was in Aberdeen, quite high but targeted at the oil barons, but that was the one and only good thing about the place.
Not sure what I fancy as it is over a month away but the other half wants to know so she can get it booked as it is a milestone birthday :-0 (It would be for 6-8 adults no kids)
Did look at 1884 and is pricey but I don't mind paying slightly higher prices if the quality comes with the price.
I think quality is better then quantity don't want pub grub.
I did wonder how long it would take for someone to mention Carvers

If you're happy to pay the price, then I don't think you'll do better than 1884.

The "market menu" at 1884 is good value to be fair - we had it when we went, paid £70 including pre-dinner drinks and a bottle of vino (plus you get a free glass of bubbly with it, proper stuff an' all) which is a good price for fine dining. It was excellent when we went. Easily the best restaurant in Hull.

Yes I found that out when I went, food was ****e, Jimmy's was also crap.
Has anyone tried Hitchcock's? It's a vegetarian restaurant, buffet style with the first person to book getting to pick the menu theme (i.e. which nation's food). Sounds like a quirky, original place. Will probably try it myself in the near future.
Aberdeen is so bloody expensive. I've heard it's the wealthiest place in the UK but surely it cant be ahead of London?
****, sorry - I took the thread off topic.... Havent eaten out in Hull for yonks but in Leeds at the minute it seems a new restaurant opens in the city centre every week. There's some amazing ones popping up.
Been a couple of times though not for a long time.
Did Mexican one time and can't remember the other.
Veggie food isn't my bag generally but they have loads to choose from and the puddings are ****ing awesome (and eat as much as you like). Even if you're not veggy (I'm certainly not) there's enough choice to make sure you have a full belly when you leave.
You can take your own ale/wine as well, or at least that used to be the case (check first).
If you don't like students, vegetarians or hippies, don't go though.
And as posted above, the first booker gets to nominate the food theme.
It is very expensive, but I would say on the whole London is higher. I think that is why the Scots in Aberdeen are even more miserable bastards than other places in Scotland, as they don't like spending their money, and when they do it cost them an arm and a leg.
Does it have to be in Hull. The best restaurants in the local area are The Westwood and Mill House, both only 10/15mins outside Hull and better than anything offered in the City.
