I think if this deal had been done earlier Podolski would probably have left, wonder how much of him we'll see this season..
Welbeck good signing. Premier League and International experience and may well flourish in our team. Got a bit left out at MU due to Rooney and RVP dominance.
Ok now for the optimist post..Some perspective people. Debuchy's at least as good as Sagna, Opsina is an experienced international keeper, Chambers is a BEAST, Welbeck's a good young striker & Alexis is World Class. Ok so we've not added a DM but its still our best window in years.
The window started off very well.I'm disappointed because of Gazidis saying we could compete with anyone.
Agreed about that lack of CB signing. But I think Wenger has a lot of faith in Chambers and wants to play him a lot. This way he'll play a lot of games at RB and CB and hopefully improve very quickly. Also, Bellerin is still at the club and has shown a lot of promise. He will play in league cup games at RB and be there for years to come if he pushes on.
He did look solid there in Pre-season. Bellerin also looks promising, I think he'll be backup RB leaving Chambers solely with the responsibility of being CB.
Steve Huish in Surbiton: I don't understand City letting a very good striker go without a replacement. If Aguero gets injured, which is likely, we only have two proven strikers in four competitions. Not good. **** they've got it rough
Citeh aren't as good up front as people like to think they are.Negredo has now gone and it's fair to say Aguero is injury prone.
Dzeko is Giroud with a bit more pace and better finishing, I like him. Jovetic is looking much better recently
The frustrating thing for me is besides the quality we never get the sufficient numbers in as well. I was arguing this with PISKIE and afcftw in the last summer as well. The "only real quality" bullshit argument, while we then end up having to play someone like Hayden in important games. We could have done with promising no-namers, up-and-comers as a backup CB, and a more physical DM. You're saying we couldn't have bought some decent physical DM that would get ahead of Flamini? Hell even Sandro would have provided plenty of competition to Flamini, he was excellent at times. Alexis is realistically quite a bit of "flash" for one transfer window.
Yes but it was also a gamble when we first did that and IIRC people were saying it was a risk playing Sagna at CB when we first did that against Sundelrand. Monreal hasn't been put through that yet but obviously Wenger thinks he could slot in from time to time a CB if his playing of Monreal at CB during pre-season can be taken as a sign. Still think we need another CB but Nacho will do as an emergency CB option until January.
Why would you say that? What do you see in Nacho that says he can emulate Sagna? Sagna was one of the best defensive right backs of all times in my book. And while Debuchy is good overall I think Mertesacker will suffer a bit from Sagna's absence in particular. He did a lot of work to compensate for his weaknesses.
