"You forgot one" You forgot another : qualified into the KO stage first time of asking. Or : highest average goals scored per game in the group stage. The CL still hasn't recovered from our fresh air whirlwind 3 yrs ago. They need the predictable lifecycle of Goonus CL.
Really? I don't go on the Arsenal board much but all the Arsenal fans I know and the Arsenal blogs that crop up on the Spurs NewsNow feed seemed to think you'd challenge for the title. Last season you were up there for half a season and with £60mill spent, it follows that you aren't just trying to consolodating 4th, surely?
Mata over Ozil is easy. I'd take Sanchez because I've watched him closely over the years and know he's very good. I don't feel nearly as comfortable trying to rate Di Maria because I've tended to watch Bale and Ronaldo when he's played.
Players like Ozil and Sanchez wouldn't have joined them if the club's aspirations was simply achieving 4th place. If they don't mount a serious challenge this season, I can see Ozil wanting to sod off, maybe back home to Germany. I reckon Sanchez won't be too happy either but being his first season I doubt he'd be looking for an escape so to speak to early. Arsenal have massively underachieved over the years for a club of their size and stature, I was actually highly amused at how they celebrated their 4th place last season, it shows a clear lack of winning mentality amongst a squad that has players of a title winning calibre (or at least being able to give a good challenge). I hate saying that about them but it's true, they do have a great team with a great manager and the two big money signings last summer and this summer further strengthens a cause for them to push for the League title, any less than 3rd would be a failure for them.
After a 0-0 and a 1-0 to qualify for the group stages I don't think anybody at Arsenal should feel too confident about winning the CL.
The one thing Arsenal do seem to have picked up is an ability to win while playing badly. I honestly can't think of many good performances since the start of last season. Obviously it leaves us getting beat by the big boys most times..
Yes Krome I noticed that as the Everton match, you played badly and save for an offside goal you should have won it 1-2.
A lot of how Arsenal have performed over the past few seasons has been to do with the rise of the mighty Spurs. Look at how United have floundered since the rise of £ity. Okay - and no - I am not putting us in the same class as £ity, but neither are Arsenal in the same class as United (barring last season's blip). But the simple fact of the matter is, that Whinger, his players, and every Gooner on this planet has felt the vibration of the mighty Spurs juggernaut trembling at their feet, and it has been a massive distraction for them. I truly believe that the day Spurs finished above Arsenal in the Prem is the day Whinger gets the bullet. Christ! we've all seen how even the most moderate of Gooners have rounded on Whinger over the past few seasons - they all seem to sense that The Smug One was correct when he described Whinger as "specializing in failure (his words, not mine) - so imagine what they'd do to him if we finish above them! It will make the Rodney King beating (that sparked off the LA riots, a few years back) look like a gentle slap around the chops!
CL draw for the PL cubs : Group B: Real Madrid, FC Basel, Liverpool, Ludogorets Group D: Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray, Anderlecht Group E: Bayern Munich, Manchester City, CSKA Moscow, Roma Group G: Chelsea, Schalke, Sporting Lisbon, Maribor Group B = the Poool will be fighting with Basel (who have a bit of pedigree) . Group D = Goonus CL. Group E = Citeh just cannot escape the Munich machine, can they. Group G = specialists in jamminess.
As the draw seemed to be a re-run of last year, I half expected Utd to be in it! City have a tough group. Home form will be crucial. All their away games pose different problems.
Liverpool actually got knocked out by Christian Gross' Basel a while ago, who featured one Timothee Atouba: http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsle...636/match=1036514/postmatch/report/index.html Should be relatively plain sailing for them to qualify from that group though, despite Real's presence. Arsenal have a slightly tricky, if completely manageable, group and they should progress, too. City's is tricky, again. Bayern are a top side, if one slightly stifled by Guardiola Barca-ifying them, Roma are very good and nobody wants a trip to Moscow. Chelsea should walk theirs. They can even have a nice scouting trip to Lisbon on the way, though Mourinho will get plenty of stick there.
I continue to hope that Wenger doesn't wake up one morning and realize he's crazy for playing Wilshire and Ozil. If Cazorla, Ramsey, Sanchez, etc., weren't being held back by those two...
Basel knocked Man Utd out of the CL a few seasons ago, too: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/15956703
who the hell does.? I wouldnt put any money on it.......... not until we miraculously make the final . But its a very lucrative competition . Being in it is vastly better than not being in it. This argument of " i dont know why Arsenal bother , they have no chance of winning it " Oh really , in that case why do you lot struggle so hard to get fourth . No point bothering is there if you are not gonna win it.? Stupidest argument ever . but " Arsenal are not going to win it " Really ? No sh1t sherlocks .
you give spurs fans a bad name . You come out with this stuff , and they all get tarred with spouting it. tut tut
It seems to me, mate, as if it's YOU that doesn't get it. Most of your fellow Gooners have caught on by now! But please, feel free to keep entertaining us!...
well we all know he is the resident idiot . we have all " caught on " to that . What you mean is , he can say the things that you would like to say but would feel too stupid to actually say them. Yes , very entertaining...... little things please little minds .
