Good grief, I'd rather have a useless giant than a useless shortass (though at 6ft he isn't). On the other hand it's like picking what kind of painful torture you'd prefer...
If Wenger wanted to sign a striker in Suarez and Ba last summer, when we had Giroud, and Sanogo, then surely he knows we need a striker even more urgently now that Giroud is out.
Just when you think this time the transfer window would close quietly with the early buys in, our only experienced striker goes out for 3-6 months.
Unless Giroud's injury is REALLY SERIOUS, then i can't see it. He wasn't in for a striker before and only if we are bare bones will he react. We aren't bare bones, far from it. Not to say that this decision is correct, just what he is thinking.
If he's out for 3-6 months, Sanogo gets injury issues andis also to young to lead the line. If we don't sign anyone i think it will be Sanchez and Campbell playing through the middle. Hopefully we get in another CF option though.
Fingers crossed, the problem for me is we need this regardless of the injury if the intention is to take the next step.
You forgot to add Walcott and Pod who can all play in the centre. He is playing Sanchez again in the centre over Sanogo, Campbell and Pod, so he sees him as a proper CF. The issue is who can we go in for? We usually take a lot more time to buy a player in and if you look at the market, it would take a HUGE bid to get a top Striker. What is left is no batter than what we have already. If we had serious injury woes then I can see it but with Walcott coming back and having Sanchez, Pod, Campbell and Sanogo, I just can't see it.
From the comments by wenger after the game on whether we sill sign a striker he is making sure he doesn't commit with his answers either way. Think we are working on something special, but if it doesn't come off I don't think we will settle for just whoever is available e.g. Remy
I think you're right and it's the right thing to do. We need quality, not a bench warmer. If we can't sign a top quality striker that's at least as good as the players we have, then there's no point. Would be great if we could get Falcao in for the season on loan.
I'm a big believer that no transfer happens quickly, the foundations are laid weeks before the ink dries. I'm sure he's had various options fail to materialise this Summer, such as a Cavani or similar, and if we sign anyone it'll be from the result of discussions that took place weeks ago, any rumours appearing now will be old news from those involved...
