The back and forth was a bit daft, but banning? That's too much.

Wasn't as if they were genuinely having an argument or slinging names...it was the lightest of light silliness.

Also, while I'm sure that an explanation is forthcoming, might I suggest in the future that, when banning fairly prominent long-time members over exceedingly mild circumstances, that an explanation accompanies rather than follows? This isn't the first time that it has happened, and it never goes well.

Before PMs start being sent around as well, I do very strongly feel that this is the sort of thing (and action) that can and should be debated openly amongst all of us. It's fairly clear when someone has done something against the rules, racist, sexist, or particularly offensive - and then the subsequent ban is relatively obvious. However, this is draconian - nobody has been offended here. Joe and Dan could have been just told to stop in a PM. People have done far, far worse and been way more offensive to other members of the forum without being banned.

Yep it started when my joking post to Osvaldorama got deleted and I got msged by a mod. You could see my post was actually a joke as well. He was saying how he was gettin abuse for some of his comments. I jokingly called him a dickhead with a smilie face just to make sure he knew it was a joke.

Indeed. For a long time, I moderated two of the most fractious fora on a message board that has a reputation for being a complete madhouse. The sort of place where a fairly heavy hand was sometimes warranted, but if I suspended/banned people over something this mild, I'd have rightly been run out of town...and probably by the other moderators as much as the common users. Even if this is a temporary thing to 'send a message', I'd suggest that it's sending an entirely different message than the one intended.
