As I have said in other threads I think we have been caught playing catch up with this. Would have been great to have sold him to fund someone better, but I think we have sold him and are now trying to find something better... Subtle difference in control. As for Welbeck, leaking we are in for him is a way to appease you lot. It distracts from the fact we have lost our goal scorer, and SB has banged on enough about this league being about scoring. Either that are we have already agreed in principle a move. It's **** or bust with is one. Either distraction or a reality.
Yeah you're right. We should of course be aiming for Van Persie or perhaps Lionel Messi at the very least.
So he's a winger is he? I guess that makes him the first central winger we've ever had. Buy Ince and Snodgrass? Attack isn't just strikers, you know. There's this magical thing called versitility, where players can play more than one position. No, Ince isn't an out and out striker, he's what you'd call a forward player, the same as Snodgrass, Brady, Boyd or Aluko. Said players can play anywhere across the attacking positions, including the second striker role (not the same as actually being an out and out striker). Furthermore, what made Shane Long our best striker? His playing style is completely different to Jelavic and Sagbo, the former scoring the exact same amount of goals. As for giving my head a shake, I think you need to look at our pre-season, as we've been playing with Shane Long as a lone striker and Ince/Snodgrass/Aluko playing off him. For the Trencin game, we started with Sagbo and Long, but then it changed round to accomodate more attacking players. In our promotion season, we didn't play with two strikers, we played with Simpson as the front man and Aluko in just behind him as an AM/playmaker.
Just you answered your own question Billy. If Welbeck came on loan, there could be a recall option, if Rooney or V Persie was to get injured. From my understanding, Van Misery doesn't want Hernandez and he has actually told him to start looking for a new club, he hasn't done that to Welbeck so it is clear out of the two who he favours.
If we aren't going to get rid of any of our centre backs, I don't think we'll bother bringing another one in. We have (no matter how **** some of you percieve some of them to be) Maguire, Davies, Chester, Figueroa (kind of), McShane and Bruce, why would we need a seventh? I don't think Dawson is going to happen, not until we've resolved the striker issue.
Then that's a massive risk on our part, what if they both got injured just after the transfer window shut? We know both of them are susceptible to injuries, we'd be better off going for Hernandez if there's no chance he'll play for them this season.
We've been trying to sign a first choice centre back all summer, we're not going to give up now, if Bruce wants to play 3-5-2 he knows he needs a better first choice back three.
Who knows what may happen Tommy, but I think it is the only option we'll have of getting him as I don't think Man united will sell him and (or) Welbeck will want a permanent transfer from United to City. 6 month initial loan with the option of revising come January. That way we at least have suitable cover for 6 months without breaking the bank and we don't panic buy, spending all of the cash we made from Long deal on the wrong player, bides time.
I never said that idiot. What I am saying is how people potentially can overrate a player just because they come from a famous club before they have even proven anything much. The two you mention are nothing like Welbeck and I never suggested we would ever be in for them anyway.
I totally agree with you. What's better, 12m in the short term or money coming in over the long term being higher up the league and in Europe?
You are a Grade A *****LOID you clown shoed mong! They finished a lot higher than us and he put in 36 appearances for them in the wrong position scoring 10 goals. I don't think people are overrating him, just see it as it is. It is just you, likely being a Liverpool fan most of your life that probably hates anything man utd. That is all!!!!!!!
So clearly he would be on the bench for them. Would make no sense to let him out and have no back up in a game
You're not even making sense. So Welbeck isn't good enough for us and he's "overrated". Who do you think we should go for? FFS.
Welbeck is a very, very capable, young, experienced player who would probably be our best ever signing. He would be amazing for us and I really struggle to see otherwise
I was delighted when we signed Long, he was better than what we had at the time. He's an absolute pest with his pace and moving the oppositions back line around but having seen him play a few times over the last 7 months have come to realise that he takes about one chance in three at best. He should for instance have had a first half hat trick against Trencin at home, he missed all 3 clear cut chances! So with £12.5m and a tidy profit on the table I'm not disappointed he's moving on. What we need is someone who can play on the shoulder of the last defender but who can take the goal chances that come their way, I'd personally be happy with Hernandez who I've mentioned before, but if its possible to get Welbeck all the better. Whether its doable who knows, but Brucey seems to have a knack of getting players here who previously would have turned their nose up to anyone of the 3-4 previous managers we have had. If it's not to be over the next 17 days then Aluko in particular will have one hell of an opportunity to establish himself in the starting 11, and possibly Ince based on his partnership with Jela based on last Sunday. I agree with OLM, another centre back is clearly on Bruceys agenda and expect one to sign before the window closes irrespective of what happens striker wise.
