Cue people pretending they have an extensive knowledge of the Portuguese/Belgian leagues, and that they've been keeping an eye on Carvalho for years. Seriously though what's with these ridiculous transfer fees associated with this kid?
€30 million isn't that ridiculous in today's market for a very highly rated 22 year old Portuguese international. I'll admit I haven't seen an awful lot of him but I would trust the club's scouting network and Wenger's knowledge on this one if we do sign him. Plenty of good players have played in Portugal over the last few years and have commanded large transfer fees, e.g Falcao, James, Moutinho etc.
Evening Standard are now reporting that we have made an offer for Carvalho http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...e-chase-for-24m-william-carvalho-9646497.html
I thought the same. I did look to see if they'd referenced them, but no mention of them. Twitter rumours are saying that Sporting are willing to sell and we're looking to buy .... we'll see what happens.
I remember people slagging Wenger off for not signing M'Vila and Capoue despite probably never seeing a Rennes or Toulouse game in their lives. All power to those who may well spend hours and hours every day watching games from around the world who have at least some knowledge of the respective leagues but I would be amazed if anyone outside the profession could, for instance, tell either of the Bender brothers apart in terms of their 'maturity' or even what the strengths and weaknesses are of nearly all the players we're linked to.
I have no idea who this guy is. Never seen him play and never heard of him before this transfer window. Mind you, being an Arsenal fan I've found my player database increases tenfold every summer
Tbh i am one of those who have little knowledge of players who play outside the champions league but if Wenger thinks they are a good buy i trust his judgement
Barcelona have been cut to 4/11 favourites to land Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal after overnight press speculation. Manchester United are now available at 2/1. Also we are being linked to Daniel Agger.
Not sure Agger would come to us knowing we've got a pretty fixed first choice partnership. Plus the fact I doubt Liverpool would sell to us at a reasonable price
Looks like Real Madrid have put a bid in for Luis Gustavo which pretty much guarantees Khedira will be moving. Could probably get him for a decent price now too.
