That Rickie Lambert, I mean he was 27 when we signed him and he hadn't played in a single World Cup Final, what were we thinking FFS?
Its not meltdown - when you sell the players we have and if you read what the management have said - we are supposed to be replacing quality with quality - which we are not. That is my point and some, thankfully not all, seem to be missing the point.
Just keep ignoring all the stuff about you being factually wrong then, that's good. And no, this transfer isn't replacing quality with quality, this is adding depth to quality in exchange for offloading a troublemaker. If, at the end of the month, we still haven't signed a CB, a winger and another forward, then you can have a meltdown and plenty of others, myself included, will join you. At the moment, it's a bit foolish.
This thread is fun! If only because it makes the happy-clappy crowd, who seem to want to dictate and bully those who have a different view into submission, attempt to justify what is, at best, a second rate player included into our squad.
Sorry Dan - there are comments on this thread that he is a good player - factually there is nothing to support that and I am being accused of being stupid. The facts support my view and i am being accussed of having a meltdown.
What kind of "facts" do you want and what facts support your view? If you could provide reasoned responses to the points I made above it might help me and others understand your logic behind thinking he's crap. At the moment it's "he only started once" (even though he didn't) and "his rating on a website for his sub appearances isn't very good" (which is stupid). Come on, give us some reasoned arguments.
Dan - his stats show he had one 90 min appearance last season, having a total of 13 appearances with 12 as a sub. One goal and one assist plus 3 bookings. Its there - I have provided the source. What else can I add? I never wrote he was crap either - I wrote that he was not good as was being suggested- which I stand by because of the fact that he got one start all season with Inter.
More appearances than Calum Chambers and Lallana didn't exactly play 90 minutes all that often. Jack Cork got no goals and one assist with five bookings, Victor Wanyama got no goals and no assists with seven bookings, except it doesn't matter because they, and Taider, aren't meant to be attacking options. Seriously, judging just on stats is not a reliable source of information when you could read what Inter fans think about him or, you know, watch him play.
He is part of the osvaldo deal. Obviously we haven't gone out and got him as a first team starter. Decent backup as part of a deal to offload a troublemaker. Only on loan so it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. If at the end of the transfer window we haven't bought anyone and he is the highest calibre player we have brought in then we can all have a meltdown. I find it odd how people are so wound up even though there is plenty of time left in the transfer window.
Who is wound up? I find it fascinating that these emotive terms are being used with such ease when all one does it try to add persective to our present situation (I hesitate to use the term "predicament" becasue i will be construed as a 'doom and gloom merchant'). I would suggest however, that our current position is not rosey and the core issues need addressing - not just in terms of like for like replacements or better still - better replacements has yet to be addressed - and the dressing room spirit, with so many star players now absent - should be a concern.
You may be right Romsey. I know nothing about him. I have a question though. You posted that he had one start; someone else posted he had 12. Which is right?
Lets agree to differ - especially in terms of appearances - because I am quoting 13 from a reputable website and you have not given a source. Even if we cannot agree on appearances - the stats i have seen show that he scored one gaol and one assit - please provide your source?
I can give sources for 13 starts if you want, and I'm not disputing one goal and one assist, just that they're unimportant stats, as they are with Jack and Victor. Here's some 13 starts sources. http://uk.soccerway.com/players/saphir--sliti-taider/131271/ - 2013/14 - 25 appearances, 13 starts, 12 subs. http://www.espnfc.com/player/146636/saphir-taider?season=2013 - 2013/14 - 13 Games Started, 12 Substitute. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saphir-taider/leistungsdaten/spieler/144779/saison/2013 - Appearances 25 (doesn't specify how many are as a starter) http://www.inter.it/en/squadra/G0931 - Appearances 25 (doesn't specify how many are as a starter)
