He got his first decent run in the first team at the back end of last season and came through with flying colours. I for one would be very disappointed if it turns out that he has been tapped and doesn't sign a contract.

Let's look at what it would cost to replace Wickham. 21 year old English centre forward who has scored goals in the premier league in his only run of games ever.

I reckon he'll cost £10m+ and in exdcess of £40k a week to replace personally.

I can see nothing from Wickham which tells me anything other than he wants what he thinks he's worth. This, IMO, is what we all want at the end of the day. I started my new job recently and gave them a "take it or leave it" option on my wage. I'm paid more than others doing the same job but I negotiated based on my experience. I'm 38 though. He's 21 and being advised by his agent remember. Not all his doing as agents must be involved in contract negotiations nowadays. I, much like Reg, certainly hope he is kept as we won't replace him for the same money we'll sell him or the same wages.

See, I agree with your post, but I'm still not 100% convinced he can do it over a season.

I'd love him to stay and to find that out, but I'm genuinelly not massively concerned either way.

I think he'll end up staying anyway.

Aye, The chance sooner or later thing, I know we haven't had done well in developing the lad, but isn't it alarming that Bruce(who signed him) MoN, Bally, PDC and Poyet up to the last 6 games, just haven't fancied him to the point, none of them were even interested in developing him? Could it be his attitude has equal blame in his slow development? I feel a bit guilty here now as I've been point blank blaming the club all this time. Sowy SAFC :(

yer i do think his attitude has been a problem, but then its up to the manager to try and change that, but i think with bruce he thought he would mature abit with age and didnt get the chance since he left soon afer with mon he was never there so he couldnt do anything to help and pdc well he wouldnt give him the time of day because of it cause thats the person pdc is, so it has been hard for the lad i think poyet seen talent and realised well he needs games and sent him out, cause he wasnt in his plans straight away but you would think if you were connor youd been waiting for this chance for so long youd take it with open arms so you could show everyone what you can do, and yer get a pay rise but atleast still sign not try and hang the club out to dry with all your demands!

The lads finally shown some promise and now we're happy to get rid? baffles me. I understand that if he doesn't sign we should sell, that's very clear. Would be gutted if he went now to be honest. Just more players to bring into the club and i don't think we have the time to do that, not with the current pace that signings are rolling in.

But promising striker doesn't equate to established striker in terms of wages does it? For what he's done for us the 22k pw is more than enough, you have top assume the club have improved on that. He could be forcing the move by the looks of it. Not a lot we can do about it talented or not.

One thing I've noted on the Portugal pics, he looks like he gets on well with the other lads, that could be a sign to his attitude issues being behind him, just a thought.

It does not no, Depends on how high our wage structure goes up to really, id push up to 30 and leave that as my final offer, strikers win games generally and he practically kept us up last year so id be will to spend an extra 8K a week for him to play like last season.

The simple way you'd think would be 30k plus 5k a goal, and if he scores say 10-12 in the league, automatically goes to 40k next August.

If he believes in his ability he'd take that.

Wonder how much he thinks he's worth...After all he must read all about the daft wages being handed out.

I said 35k top end a while back but I have to admit the whole thing is building a bit of resentment from me so I'll go with 30k too. :p Gonads proposition is more than fair, If offered that the lad should take the club's hands off.

1 year left on his contract? Limited PL experience? I would have said about 3-4 mill.

But hasn't some Championship striker gone for £10m just recently?

It's certainly something a tribunal would have to take into consideration I would have thought.

yer it must as im sure i seen earlier on what it takes into consideration that market value of the player and as he went for 11m it creates a precdent also with shaw and others since hes english scored goals in the premier league ect i suppose you could argue that hes worth that much and it also takes into account how much you paid for him in the first place so obviously hes better than when we bought him and given him better facilities to train gain pl experience ect then you would hope we should get decent tribunal decision

We're all experts on here! Me included - I know what I'd expect him to accept (much along Gonads lines) and I'd happily give him £35k plus add ons for goals etc.

In reality, he's a puppet being played by an agent who will know what Jozy Altidre is earning (Altidore used as an example as the money being mooted by the papers is along similar lines to Altidore's wage) . Wickham himself may be willing to work for £30k a week but his agent may be whispering sweet nothings in his ear about the amount of money available and then negotiating a better deal with the club. The premier league rules state that an agent is normally involved in contract negotiations and a player does not normally make the demands himself. An agent does not have to be used but, inevitably, they are!

It's all well and good us saying "well if that's the case he should sack his agent" but he won't. It is his agent that gets him the money at the end of the day.

Poyet's comments are just an invitation for bids from other clubs.

Perhaps he's been told he can't have Borini, Wickham, Fletcher & Altidore.

I suspect Poyet is annoyed at Wickham and now wants him out ...... if the lad has a **** attitude I'd agree 100% tbh.

Also, if it means him going, to free up money for the likes of Borini?

Great thread/debate, he can have bardo's £35k tops for me, i'd give him till monday me like, agree that poyet is putting it out there, and that his agent will be telling him that the likes of southampton might give him £50k if he hangs on, gus is handling this situation spot on (not liking this "it gets to a certain point and then its out of my hands") malarky mind, has to be said.

But yes, sign up or **** off connor
