Poyet has said fella, he wants 4 strikers with one who can play wide, That's not Rodriguez. Completely different players. Rodriguez will be filling the other wide slot available in the squad and in no way will be connected to the Borini saga.

Moussa Sow would be a great alternative to Borini.

I know that mate, but with the fact Borini was scarcely used in the striker position in Poyet's team last year and rather in LW, it's safe to assume he'd largely be used at LW if he was to sign, but given that is Rodriguez's position, and assuming Rodriguez will start pretty much every game, £14m is a lot to spend on a player who would be used as cover for LW/Striker. I'd suggest we'd be better off going for someone much cheaper

This is all working on the assumption that we are signing Rodriguez

He might think that but he's clearly not a part of their plans so the fact that Remy has failed his med shouldn't influence his position. Liverpool will just go for someone else. They'd agreed a price for him, that should tell him everything he needs to know about his future there.

Borini played there because there was no realistic alternative though. Rodriguez can play left and attacking centre, possibly on the right too. Giac can play left right and centre, Aj can play left right and centre. Gus want's attacking versatility and depth. They'd all get plenty of game time. Sorry mate, but it's crystal to me. As I said, Sow would be perfect in addition to Rodriguez, he can play both flanks as well as upfront.

Borini's "right place right time" finishing is poor IMO. Ok with time on the ball, 1 v 1 and pens but first time he was no better than Altidore in the goalscoring stakes. Strange when you look at his involvement in the moves and the quick thinking he has in that department.

Sky sports said he has basically turned us down flat just now when talking about Remy??

Just **** the lad off man, he doesn't wanna come, we have Mavria to back up Rodriguez, let's take that £14million and put it towards a top end CM & CB.

The lads heart isn't here, would we see the same fight as last year if he's not trying to impress Liverpool.

**** it, move on. Should have a week ago.

I disagree fella, I can't remember very many one on ones to judge Borini on. But if you want to talk about time on the ball what about his instinctive first touch volley against WBA? Anyway, my point isn't about the player it's about the squad place he'd take. Poyet wants 4 strikers with one who can play wide. Rodriguez can't play upfornt which tells me he ain't Borini's alternative. Just cause Borini turned us down doesn't mean we're not going to replace him, he needs replacing with another striker who can play wide because that's what Poyet is looking for. I'd be happy with Sow who can play wide both sides and up front.

    Not a thing mate.

I'm dubious of links to Costa Rica lads on the back of a good tourney where in reality the teams they faced were strong only in name.

Not one I'm getting overly excited about, to say the least!

How about Solomon Kalou as a Borini alternative? Available for around £3million...

Giacc? Johnson? There was alternatives like, Gus just preferred to play him on the left, probably because of his fantastic work rate. There was the possibility of him playing down the middle (Wembley an example)

For me he would be most useful to us on the left, Rodriguez also would be most useful on the left. I love Borini, but £14m is a lot

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is waiting for Fabio Borini to return from Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States in an attempt to convince him to join the Black Cats.

Poyet's men have had an offer for Borini accepted by Liverpool, a bid of £12m plus a further £2m in bonuses, but the former Roma forward is unsure on heading to the Stadium of Light.

Indeed, while Borini spent last term on loan at Sunderland, he is hoping to impress Reds boss Brendan Rodgers on tour, along with waiting to see what other options arise.

However, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Poyet has not yet given up hope of Borini moving to Sunderland.

And the Uruguayan manager wants to speak to him personally when Liverpool return from their tour in a bid to convince him to move to the north east.

Borini however may have been offered fresh hope of a prolonged Liverpool stay today with the news that the Reds have pulled out of a deal to sign France striker Loic Remy.

Liverpool met the player's release clause at QPR, but his medical results offered cause for concern.
