As we all know, Fabio Borini’s agent has expressed his client’s desire to stay at Anfield and fight for his place in the side. It’s typical of Fabio’s self-belief and ambition, but terrible news for us. I wont bleat on too much about this since you’ve probably already read a hundred articles on it – for example John’s earlier today!

It really isn’t looking like such a could start to the week in terms of transfers for Sunderland as reports in Italy suggest that Marcos Alonso is not for sale after impressing Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella (yes, that lad who use to be a pretty nifty striker) so far in pre-season.

It has been widely reported that last season’s loanees Borini and Alonso were top of Gus Poyet’s wish list. Whilst neither are completely ruled out (after all, these reports could have been leaked to increase potential wage packets or transfer fees), it is looking increasingly unlikely that we will ever see them in red and white again. That is of course a huge shame, they were two of the few bright sparks of last season and Borini particularly would have rubbed stamped our ambition of ridding ourselves of the relegation fodder tag.

However, much to my personal delight, yesterday the Express reported that we have joined the race to sign Danny Rose. Usually I am quick to dismiss links with loan players from previous regimes, but a lot makes sense about this transfer. Not only is he a very good player but he is young, English and has proven Premier League experience. As we witnessed during his loan spell here he is gobbles up the ground like few other full backs which would surely mean he’d take to a duck to water in the wing-back role Poyet would ask of him.

The impending signing of Ben Davies by Mauricio Pochettino makes Rose surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and the £6 million value surely wouldn’t be enough to put us off. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to put of rivals such as Queens Park Rangers and Hull City who are also meant to be in the frame for his signature. Rose loved it up here mind, he spoke very fondly of it and even expressed his willingness to stay before Tottenham decided to play him. If we were to bid, you would think we would have a good chance of sealing his signature. Please!

Gus Poyet has also been quoted confirming his interest in want-a-way Atletico Madrid winger Cristian 'Cebolla' Rodriguez;

"Cebolla is a player who with his power, speed and technique would adapt very well to English football and I would love to have him on my team.”

There have been and are talks for Sunderland to sign him, but the issue is not easy because Cristian must surely have doors open to him for several clubs in Europe.”

I am determined to sign a Uruguayan this year, within the characteristics of the players I'm looking for and I think they can bring, players like Suarez or Cavani, but they are not within the possibilities.”

I think Cebolla has all the attributes to make an impact if he was brought to England."
This one might gather pace in the next few days and, as I mentioned in a previous update, being linked with players of this pedigree and calibre is surely only a good thing.

Finally, more reports from Italy suggest we are set to battle it out with Stoke City for the signing of Parma winger Jonathan Biabiany – a name all of us FIFA players will surely know.

With a contract until 2018, he probably wouldn’t be too cheap and this same report suggests we could include Emanuele Giaccherini as a make-weight for the transfer. It’s that alone which has me very sceptical about the link, Poyet has already expressed his admiration for Giaccherini and I don’t see the point in moving on one winger who has tasted Premier League football to bring in another who hasn’t. Best take this one with a big pinch of salt, or ignore it altogether, whichever you prefer.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet says striker Ignacio Scocco's future may be away from Wearside.

Scocco, who is known as "Nacho", joined the club for £3.2m in January as Poyet looked for goals to keep Sunderland in the Barclays Premier League.

But the 29-year-old Argentinian made only eight appearances and failed to find the net in any of his outings.

Former club Newell's Old Boys are reportedly interested in re-signing Scocco while River Plate are monitoring the situation.

Poyet told the Sunderland Echo: "My first idea - and I knew it would be difficult - was to use Nacho last season to help us get out of the problems we were in.

"It was always going to be difficult for a player who had played in Argentina and Brazil over the last year to come to the English Premier League

"We were in a fight and he's not that type of player - he needed us to be controlling games in order for him to do his bit.

"The type of player he is, we were not playing to his strengths - he needs to be in a team that is on top in games, so my idea then was to take the closed season to improve the team and to improve Nacho in terms of him being used to
the environment over here and the football itself.

"But there are options now and everything is being analysed, we will see what happens over the next few days."

Sunderland and Aston Villa are set to go head-to-head for the signature of Evian midfielder Daniel Wass.

The Denmark international joined the Ligue 1 side from Benfica in 2012, following a successful loan spell.

Wass, 25, has two years left on his current deal at Evian and is keen on a Premier League move to enhance his international career.

The Dane, who reverted from full back to midfield, has alerted the attention of Black Cats boss Gus Poyet, while Villa boss Paul Lambert is looking to add to his squad.

The former Benfica man scored nine goals in 38 league appearances for the Ligue 1 strugglers last season.

The Evian hierarchy are resigned to losing Wass and are prepared to listen to offers of around £3million.

Marseille are ready to offload former West Brom loanee Morgan Amalfitano for £1.5m this summer - with Sunderland and Crystal Palace lurking.

Amalfitano returned to Marseille after making 28 Premier League appearances for the Baggies last season but, according to L'Equipe, he could be on his way out again straight away.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa was said to be impressed by the midfielder's performances in England last season and it had been suggested that he may reintroduce him to the Marseille first team set-up this term.

But now the Ligue 1 side have set an asking price of £1.5m for the 29-year-old - and he could be offered a route back to the Premier League.

Amalfitano, who has been at Marseille since 2011, impressed against both Palace and Sunderland, and scored against the latter, during last year's loan and now both are considering moves for the midfielder.

After flirting with relegation last season, both clubs eventually steered clear of the drop and are now busy reinforcing their squads in time for the new campaign - and Amalfitano could fit the bill.

L'Equipe is also mentioning it:

http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/M-amalfitano-plait-en-angleterre/484715

<< After his loan at West Bromwich, Morgan Amalfitano returned to Marseilles, where Marcelo Bielsa seems to count on him. But the player has retained a good rating in England, and one year of the end of his contract, OM does not oppose a departure from his midfielder 29 years. Crystal Palace and Sunderland should take action soon, an estimated € 2 millon transfer. >>

Ssshhh, after they've sold us fabio

Sunderland, Hull and QPR in three-way battle to sign Tottenham defender Danny Rose

The former England U21's star has been loaned-out to a number of clubs, and with the imminent arrival of Swansea's Ben Davies - it appears that Rose's next move will be permanent.

Reports claim that Hull have already tabled a £6m offer for Rose, however Spurs chiefs will await bids from Sunderland and QPR before making a decision.

The 24-year-old has spent time with Sunderland, Watford, Peterborough and Bristol City - but did manage to break into Tottenham's first-eleven frequently last season.

Rose featured in 22 games for the North London side, netting his only goal in a 1-0 away win to Mark Hughes' Stoke.

But if Ben Davies becomes Mauricio Pochettino's first signing of the summer, then Rose will almost certainly find himself down the White Hart Lane pecking order.

Harry Redknapp could be tempted to follow-up the signing of Rio Ferdinand with his former pupil.

Though Redknapp currently boasts a surplus of defenders in Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Yun Suk-Young, Clint Hill and Armand Traore - none can compete with the quality of Rose.

Sunderland are also reported to be interested, however with a £14m bid for Fabio Borini - a bid that could yet be revised, money is likely to be an issue for Gus Poyet.
