    Starting with the telegraph

Charles N'Zogbia Ffs! Would a transfer window be a window without being linked to the Zog, apparently seen a seaham hall already after popping into merrils for a fish lot

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/sunderland/10811098/.html

All the transfer news, rumours and gossip for Sunderland in the Premier League's summer window, with money and targets for Gus Poyet and players who could leave

Budget: £10m, plus money generated from sales.

Strategy: Avoid the mistakes of last summer, where quantity rather than quality left them with a large squad, but little competition for places and too many unsuitable for English football

Who calls the shots? Sunderland Director of Football Lee Congerton is in charge of recruitment but manager Gus Poyet has made it clear he will not agree to signing of players he does not want.

Best case: Fabio Borini will turn his loan move from Liverpool into a permanent switch and improvements will be made in the centre of midfield and on the left wing. A goalscorer is imperative.

Worst case: Too many players are signed without the proper research and Gus Poyet falls out with Lee Congerton and quits in protest at having players forced on him.

Likely to leave: Jack Colback, Jozy Altidore, Phil Bardsley, Fabio Borini, Seb Larsson, Danny Graham and most of those signed last summer.

On the wanted list: Fabio Borini, Marcos Alonso, Jordan Rhodes, Danny Ings, Charles N'Zogbia.

    Expected better from the telegraph

If our budget is £10mil plus sales, Gus had better find some rare jewels in the bottom half of the barrel.

Leicester, QPR/Derby and even Burnley will spend more than that as will every team currently around us.

I know it's not my money but if you're at the table ES, you gotta play the game the way it's supposed to. Either that or you give your seat up at the table to a bigger player.

To be honest if it was ten mil I'd just go for Borini. Quality over quantity.

I would honestly expect somewhere nearer 20 mil. ES has sanctioned big money moves and also penny pinched. After what happened last season I believe he will open the purse strings again.
Hoping next season the magic carpet soars higher than ever.

Fenerbahce's Raul Meireles is a name that seems to have been linked with Sunderland during every transfer window in recent years and despite the Premier League season just finishing, this summer's transfer window is no different.

    It was reported in the press at the weekend that Gus Poyet had asked about Meireles and now Poyet has been quoted in the Turkish press expressing his wish to see the Portuguese international midfielder in the red and white of Sunderland;

I need a leader on the pitch and a tough football player.

I would like to see Raul Meireles on our staff in the coming season.

He also wore the jerseys of Chelsea and Liverpool, so he's a familiar name in the Premier League.
With Meireles expected to be named in the Portugal squad for the World Cup, the report suggests that the 31-year-old midfielder's future will not be decided until after the tournament is over.

Despite the player's age, there is no doubting his quality and with question marks hanging over the future of Jack Colback, Seb Larsson and Craig Gardner, as well as the end of Ki Sung-Yueng's loan deal, the possible signing of a player who has plenty of Premier League experience would seem to be a positive move and could provide the midfield with the type of experienced know-how missing since the departure of Bolo Zenden.

Villa are also facing the threat of losing academy products Marc Albrighton and Callum Robinson. Albrighton’s contract runs out this month and he has attracted attention from Sunderland and Leicester.

Sunderland's defence will need a lot of work ahead of next season. With Carlos Cuellar and Andrea Dossena leaving the club, Phil Bardsley out of contract, Marcos Alonso, Ondrej Celustka and Santiago Vergini's loan deals expiring, doubts over the futures of Valentin Roberge and Modibo Diakite, and John Egan and Louis Laing being released, as it stands only John O'Shea and Wes Brown look certain to be here next season.

With that in mind, Sunderland are hopeful of completing the permanent signing of Vergini but will still need to bring in new faces. The club were linked with a move for Cameroon international Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik recently and have now been linked with a Polish left back.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Sunderland are considering making a move for Wisla Krakow defender Gordan Bunoza. 26-year-old Bunoza is out of contract this summer and the player has admitted that's it's time to change club, with Malaga, Livorno, Palermo and FC Basel also linked with the player.

Bunoza, who is a Bosnian international (despite not making an appearance for the international side since 2010), joined Wisla from Croatian side NK Karlovac for an undisclosed fee in July 2010 and has since gone on to make 83 appearances for the Ekstraklasa side.

Despite being 6'5", he is primarily a left back, who can also play in the centre of defence.

Aston Villa winger Marc Albrighton has been linked with a possible move to Sunderland this summer.

Albrighton missed a large chunk of last season through injury but impressed during a loan spell with Wigan and in the late stages of the campaign for his parent club. The 24-year-old could be available on a free transfer with his current deal set to expire at the end of the month. Boss Paul Lambert confirmed last week that discussions had taken place with the player's agent but the club are yet to release any news of a contract extension. Sunderland are on the look-out for some added pace and creativity in attack with on-loan forward Fabio Borini returning to Liverpool. However, the Black Cats will face competition from Everton and Leicester, who have also been linked with the former England Under-21 international.

    He starts.

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini is in the team to face Irish side Shamrock Rovers this evening in an end-of-season friendly, just 48 hours after returning from his Sunderland loan spell.

The Italian spent the entire season on-loan at Sunderland and has become a cult hero in the north east after scoring 10 goals, including some hugely impacting their miraculous survival bid.

He scored big goals in their run to the Capital One Cup final, where he opened the scoring against Manchester City. He also scored a winning penalty at Stamford Bridge in their late surge for survival as well as two goals in the derbies against Newcastle.

He will be fondly remembered in Sunderland and was awarded their Young Player of the Year award for his sterling performances. He now returns to Liverpool where he must challenge Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge for a starting berth in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The Northern Irishman is set to give Borini a chance this evening as the Reds travel over to Ireland to face Shamrock in a friendly that should feature a lot younger players.

Borini scored four goals in Sunderland’s final five league games to push for survival.

Only cos Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling will be resting for the World Cup. Cannot see him getting in the Liverpool team next season. Probably will be better teams than us want him but as we all know miracles happen.

Precisely. Hardly a surprise him playing tonight is it.

And agreed, unlikely to be heading back next season. We should be casting our net wider now.

Borini is a developing lad getting games here and on a very long contract at his parent club. Liverpool would be mad not to send him back for us for another season. I see another loan very likely.

The lad has hit 10 goals in his first fully fit season in England out of position, if he hits 15+ next season Liverpool could be in line to make profit on him. If I was Rogers I'd be breaking my neck to send him back here. No chance getting him permanent imo, but considering he's been with us for a season now and we need a lot of players it would make sense to loan our young player of the year and top scorer back for another season.

Sunderland are looking to sign Exeter City star Matt Grimes, according to reports in the North East.

Gus Poyet’s team have shown a keen interest in the midfielder and believe the 18-year-old would fit in with the manager’s tactics next season.

Grimes was one of four players who has recently put pen to paper on a new deal at Exeter City, along with Jordan Tillson, Tom Nichols and David Wheeler.

However The Journalhave reported today that the playmaker is set for a possible move to Sunderland.

Modibo Diakite's agent has indicated that the midfielder would be willing to return to Fiorentina next season.

Following a frustrating start to his Sunderland career, Diakite was loaned to the Italian club in January, and his representative has suggested that a permanent move is a possibility ahead of the transfer window.

"The player is simply on loan from Sunderland, we'll talk with Fiorentina to know if there is the will to keep him," Ulisse Savini told Lady Radio.

"From our side there is maximum availability to stay, Modibo is happy in Florence and in the team.

"Now we have to also understand if Sunderland will want to focus on Diakite or if they evaluate the player as they did in January, in which case they would ask for money to let him go."

Diakite moved to the Black Cats on a free transfer from Lazio last summer.
