Good, his inability to effectively link defence to attack in the World Cup, a job that Carrick or Wilshere would have been far superior at, cost us against Italy and Uruguay. Time to move on.
Great news for England and takes the pressure off Wroy to pick him again due to the intense media pressure claiming he is world class (never was in his prime and was a liability at the WC). Bring in the youngsters now and lets move on from the failures of the "Golden Years"
That said Gerrard has been a faithful servant and has done his absolute best so many thanks go to him

Never was world class? Id have to disagree there. Sure he wasnt great all the time, but name a player that is? Take his performance in the champions league final against ac milan for example.

Good club player but an average England player. It's the same with Lampard, great club player for Chelsea but didn't do much for England. I'm glad he has retired.
Lampard scored 29 goals for England from midfield. How is that not doing much for England. Lampard & Gerrard are easy targets but in truth they are the best midfielders England have had in the last 10 years.

Is he also responsible for the war in the Middle East? Can hardly lay the blame of years and years of England failure at his feet. Hodgson failed to get the best out of our players when he managed us at Liverpool so it's hardly surprising he's done the same whilst managing England. A new and inspiring manager is needed before England rebuild can truly begin.
I mean, he has hardly been a world class player. Of course, this is my opinion only, and 'world class' is subjective, as many will judge it differently.
