It's £1.75m, which I don't think will be enough personally, but it might involve some add ons later down the line so you never know. I think Sheffield United will try hold out for at least £2.5m, but we shall see.

The lad from Dundee looked to be cock on at one point, but it looks as though a deal has stalled. I still think it'll go through though.

I thought we'd already bid £2m? My mind could have fabricated that figure though.

We've bid again for Maguire; I think he'll take precedence over Dawson now.

not 100% sold on Maguire, after watching Huddleston go past him at Wembley like he wasn't there and Tom's not blessed with pace, I think league one/championship is his level, his lack of pace to me, is a major concern especially with him being a central defender.

I thought it was £1.5m the first time round, but I'm now doubting myself.

We're all at sea. Either way, is he any good? He's obviously highly thought of by quite a few, but I've never seen him play except for when Hudd did him for pace.

Cant let Alex go unless we get someone in. We do need a big squad with the extra games we will have this season. How hilarious it would be if they really did buy him from us after talking so much trash on him.

Any idea how much we would hold out for Alex? We got him on a free I think.

think its just paper talk, can't see Bruce jnr wanting to return to the tws after his treatment at the hands of the boo boys there.

Are you being serious? This debate raged a few months ago and I'm trying to work out if you were a part of it and if this is a wind up.

A defender doesn't need to have bags of pace in his locker. Tom's quicker than he looks, he just doesn't use it because he doesn't have to. How many times did he get subbed off last season because he was tired?

From a Blade's fan at my work: "If you get him for less than £3m you're getting a bargain. The lad is a future England international for sure and as long as he makes the right choices in his career, he'll go far. He still needs to work on his ball playing ability, but his positioning, heading, tackling and timing are far in advance of those playing in the Championship, let alone League 1. Is he ready to be a PL starter? No, probably not. Will he make a good squad player? Absolutely. If you nurture his career properly, you've got a £10m defender on your hands."

Well, that's me sold.

Are you arguing with yourself?

Interestingly, Sporting Lisbon have put a £5m pricetag on the head of England U21s CB Eric Dier (which Newcastle think is too much). Is he worth a punt at that price (HFFP?)

Few twitter rumours that Fulham have offered £3m and the signings virtually complete.

I agree that pace isn't necessary however it is a huge bonus. As long as Chessy is fit and Davies and Maguire play either side of him or Chester is there to cover both it won't have any impact as them three together or if we play four at the back Chessy alongside Maguire would make up for any lack of pace for Maguire. However if his positioning is as good as Davies, pace matters very little as his positioning will give him that extra yard, but i would still be cautious of playing a back two of just Maguire and Davies as i think it would be very one dimensional.

I think at 2.5M in this day and age for a young player its worth the risk as its not a huge sum of money and he would add good depth and hopefully progress into a top premier league player which is what we need.

it appears it's sh#t or bust with Fulham ,hope its the later, use to have a soft spot for them, now they just qpr in disguise.
How are we anything like QPR? We've released/sold 14 players this summer who had 739 international caps between them; our wage bill is a fraction of what it was. We only have two players over the age of 30, one of whom is very likely to leave (Stekelenburg).

We have money to spend because we have the parachute payment and have slashed the wage bill to the bone. By all means criticise us for spending money on McCormack (after all, it is a big risk), but it's pretty baseless to compare us with QPR's team of veterans and loanees.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you also have one of the best youth set ups in the country? I spoke to a Fulham fan when I was in London when your relegation was pending, but not confirmed. He was excited at getting rid of the deadwood and letting some of your academy players step up to play in the Championship. He thought you had the makings of a very good PL squad of homegrown talent, if you can nurture them in the Championship for the next season or two.

good luck anyway.

in one swoop you've pushed the price of a average/above average(slightly)championship player through the roof in the true tradition of qpr, even Leeds fans say3/4million at most for him, would have thought Blackburn and Rhodes would have been a bit of a clue.

the bench mark has now been set every time a player hits a purple patch in the championship and a club's enquires regards his availability, you can bet your bottom dollar that the 11million Fulham paid will be quote, We've already seeing it with the likes of Brighton asking Leicester to cough up 10 million for a player from a above average championship side
