Had me confused as well to be honest. In general terms, The Defence Secretary has no more influence as to whether or not our Armed forces go to war than the Bishop of bath and Wells.

Aye but your pot-banging drool-covered Hun types have spent years convincing themselves that John Reid rode into Iraq on a flaming chariot swinging a Pope-blessed sword.

The problem though Dan is Reid was not Defence Secretary at the time of the Iraq war, I was just giving Aldo enough rope...

Are you suggesting he was somehow responsible for the Invasion of Iraq?

Defence Secretary?

Nope . I am suggesting that he proves your assertion that Scotland has no say in the ministry of defence wrong .

But if you're in a carnaptious mood and want to argue then I don't mind . Well...... at least until ma teas ready

Baldothespastic will have to content himself with some roasted cheese. Best he has it in the cellar though in case of any low flying helicopters!!

Scotland WILL HAVE NO SAY if we gain independence, some sort of deal may well be done to keep boats/subs/planes in Scotland but they will still belong to the Government based in Westminister. They don't belong to Scotland simply because they happen to be based here and there is no way you can ask for 10% of a Submarine because we paid for 10% of it.

So you don't think Scotland will be due a share of the UKs arms and equipment if we become independent ?

How would that work in practice? Seriously?

Our Tax Money also helped pay for building projects all over England, are you suggesting we ask for our 10% share in the Millenium Dome too? How about some of the Olympic Stadiums or one of the Rooms from Windsor castle? How about a few Gems from the Crown Jewels? Half of Nelson's Column or a Branch from the Xmas tree Norway give us every year?
