Are you suggesting he was somehow responsible for the Invasion of Iraq?

    Defence Secretary?

Had me confused as well to be honest. In general terms, The Defence Secretary has no more influence as to whether or not our Armed forces go to war than the Bishop of bath and Wells.

Aye but your pot-banging drool-covered Hun types have spent years convincing themselves that John Reid rode into Iraq on a flaming chariot swinging a Pope-blessed sword.

Scotland WILL HAVE NO SAY if we gain independence, some sort of deal may well be done to keep boats/subs/planes in Scotland but they will still belong to the Government based in Westminister. They don't belong to Scotland simply because they happen to be based here and there is no way you can ask for 10% of a Submarine because we paid for 10% of it.

How would that work in practice? Seriously?

Our Tax Money also helped pay for building projects all over England, are you suggesting we ask for our 10% share in the Millenium Dome too? How about some of the Olympic Stadiums or one of the Rooms from Windsor castle? How about a few Gems from the Crown Jewels? Half of Nelson's Column or a Branch from the Xmas tree Norway give us every year?

The thing about arms and equipment is they are mobile . You're just being silly now .

How about you have Trident , the aircraft carriers and the Barry Manilow cds Nige and we will have a destroyer , a couple of frigates and the dog . ;)

"The Royal Navy is part of the Naval Service, which also comprises the Royal Marines. The professional head of the Naval Service is the First Sea Lord, an admiral and member of the Defence Council of the United Kingdom. The Defence Council delegates management of the Naval Service to the Admiralty Board, chaired by the Secretary of State for Defence. The Royal Navy currently operates three bases in the United Kingdom where commissioned ships are based; Portsmouth, Clyde and Devonport, Plymouth, the last being the largest operational naval base in Western Europe".
