i think the performance clauses from last seasons survival have already cost the club getting on for the value of Dawson !!! One day we may be paying the players League winning bonuses
It definitely looks like it's happening, I just hope it's really really happening at the quoted £8m.
I'd definitely consider Sigurdsson - he's a class player. Does Ehab have anyone helping him negotiate on transfer fees? He doesn't seem very good at it.
£8m seems a lot. But then for the price to be anything like what you'd feel comfortable paying, the player has to force his way out. From what we've heard from the club, Snodgrass is happy to spend another year at Norwich to get us promoted (which presumably means he'd also be happy to leave, but isn't going to force it). On that basis, he's always going to cost over the odds. Currently, you're in the fairly unpleasant position of the seller not needing to sell and the buyer having other competitors. Price is always going to be exceptionally high in those circumstances. Also worth bearing in mind that Snodgrass will probably be the best player in the Championship next season, if he stays. That means he may well be worth, to us, the gazillions we would get from being promoted... As I posted two days ago, his pace is the only real hold back to him. So while £8-10m would be an exceptionally good deal for us, I also have no doubt that it would be worth it for you. He is incredibly effective and if you look through the Prem, he's actually pretty unique for his style. The one thing he will guarantee, that some flair Jose Nirvana Acratopuliquez from the continent won't, is that he is a safe bet in terms of slotting into the team. You could almost certainly get a better player for the same price on the continent, but I'd say they'd need minimum 6 months to get used to the Prem and often they won't settle. The biggest teams can afford to buy and hold while foreigners aclimatise. Snodgrass will hit the ground running.
The price does seem a bit much, but clubs at this early stage have the option of holding people to ransom. It is the price of trying to get business done early and not risking losing out on targets. If we stay up and finish a few places higher up, it will most certainly be worth the investment. Hypothetically, should we get Dawson and Maguire, do we think anyone would be allowed to leave to recoup some of the outlay? I know we need depth in all positions, but if I was bruce\macca etc, would that mean they are pushed down the order and likely to have minimal chances of playing, subsequently wanting to leave. Essentially, we would have 6 centre backs, maybe more if I am forgetting someone. (That made sense in my head)
Was on the Hull city fan twitter thing. Said he was to sign at 10am. Not an official source but they usually say if its a rumour and only deal rarely in certainties
People might think it's a lot of money but for proven Premier League quality players that is what you pay.
If we had a midfielder/winger that scored seven goals last season I would like to think we would get good money for them ,6-8 million sounds a fair price to me
I will say the difference between this second season syndrome pre-season and our last one are rather striking. We have just paid £8M? with a possibility of paying £7M? and an apparent bid of £4M? going in. Last time we got 'this is the one we have been chasing' for Sonko on loan.
For £8M we can get a better player or several decent players, Snodgrass is good but I wouldn't pay more than £4M for him.
I'll have what you're smoking please. Are you being serious, several decent players for 8 million?? We are a premier league club playing in Europe ffs not a league 1/championship outfit. 8 million is well worth it, why? because Snodgrass will complement our midfield lovely and certainly our threat going forward. He provides assists and he can also hit them (free kicks/set pieces/open play). He has also proved that he can play at this level.
We have several 'decent' players, loads of them, Boyd, Aluko, Brady, Sagbo. But with Jelavic, Long, Huddlestone, Davies, Snodgrass, Livermore, we have real quality. Players who have bags of experience playing in the Premier League and bags of ability and that costs money I'm afraid.
