Had a reminisce with Bruceys Beak and MrRAWhite about some West Ham games the other day and we couldn't quite place a couple of results. For the avoidance of future doubt, this site is pretty good for resolving arguments of this sort:

    http://www.statto.com/football/teams/sunderland/

p.s. the midweek game was 5-0 and the 6-0 was on 18.10.92, whatever that day was!

I was a hundred per cent certain that we were beated 5-0 i midweek...It's the kind of thing that sticks when you endure it first hand. However, I was not there for the 6-0 drubbing, so can't be certain, but I think it was a weekend game.

Ah the 6 - 0 wasn't that when we had a horrendous time of hardly scoring any goals or winning any games and then had three home games in a row and beat Middlesbrough 4 - 1, West Ham 6 - 0 and West Brom 6 -1.

No mate: you're going back to the late 1970's or very early eighties there I think.

  7. Lever that was 1976-77 I think when Adamson was manager. We had a late revival but still got relegated. If memory serves me right Bristol City v Coventry kicked off 30 mins late with a paltry excuse and played for a draw to keep them both up after they found out Everton had beaten us. Think both games were played on a Tuesday night..

My dad was reminiscing the other day about the time he went to West Ham and we got beat 8-0!!! Ouch!

biggest I've ever been to was the 5-0 against Leeds and I think it was 5-0 at half time and we all had to go home as my parents were a little pissed off.

believe it was beamed back to Roker Park as well

Your spot on there Joe..I think we had gone about 11 games without scoring a goal before an incredible run of results which saw us score 16 goals in three games!

Pretty sure it was 10 minutes Joe, a certain Jimmy Hill was Coventry chairman not only delayed their start, but he also got the Sunderland result announced.
Then Coventry were told to play back pass for the last 10 minutes.
(I didn't like the big chinned twat before that, but absolutely hated him after.)

Sorry lads I didn't check the year just remember those three games. Although I do remember us playing at home to WHU and being 1 - 0 up at half time, a Bobby Moore og, and losing the game 1 -5. But still I stayed right to the bitter end.

Seems I was wrong too the Echo reckons 15 minutes.

For the younger Mackems a good synopsis here after Hill got stick at Fulham.

  13. You are probably right MR, I just remember feeling rage at Mr Cinney chin that night and the diabolical display from both teams after our result was announced.

I could be wrong, but if my 'ageing' memory serves me correct, I thought it started with a 1-0 win against Bristol City (which I think was played on a Friday night for some reason), then a 4-0 win against Boro, and then the 6-0 and 6-1 against West Ham and West Brom...I'm sure some of the lads on here can dig the results out and put us right one way or the other though eh..<laugh>

I remember that glorious week in 1976-77 when after not scoring for ages we won 3 games in a week scoring 16 goals. Was 14 years pld and use to stand in the Roker end with my dad.

Also if I remember right the change in fortune was brought about by the introduction to the team of three young reserves, Kevin Arnott, Shaun Elliot and Gary Rowell

    Brilliant week !!!
