With The geopolitics of the world today UK doesn't need Gibraltar, the same way that UK doesn't claim the Suez canal(anymore).
So by your simplistic view Britain shouldn't have declared War on Germany after they invaded Poland .Or should we not have bothered when the germans invade Denmark
First of all: nobody was bothered when Denmark cowardly surrendered to Germany. Second, I do believe England(and France) had an alliance with Poland that you very reluctantly fulfilled...
If you are teacher then it is easy to see why your country is so bad at economic output compared to ours. You logic is quite frankly frigging stupid and here you wouldn't last long as a teacher because we value education. If you think the people of the Falklands are subjugated then I have absolutely no reason to believe you are a teacher at all, instead you come across as a bitter troll who got owned in such epic proportions that you are stupid enough to try and turn this whole situation into a subjugation issue. I think your part in this discussion is over, I will not reply to you again in this thread because your trolling is no longer worth my time.
Yes very reluctantly denamark, the same day the germans invaded , and if you're saying that Denmark cowardly surrendered then that trait seems to exist today .
fifa should come down on argentina like a tonne of bricks. using football and a world cup as a platform to push a political agenda is disgraceful and cowardly behaviour, especially as the issue in question should be dropped by the argentinians since the islanders themselves (the most important party in this dispute) have voted to stay as a british territory.
Please enlighten me on the connection between my personal profession and my nations fiancial state. I do have a job, pay taxes etc. Selling drugs or stealing cars doesn't contribute to the good of the nation, you know!
I actually agree with you on the Falklands but the way you've addressed Mikra and dismissed the Danes in general here is disgraceful. You are the kind of Brit that gives us a bad name. What the **** would you know about Danish economic output or their education system or indeed the value their culture puts on education? Not a lot I bet. Re: the Falklands - it's acceptable to have a different point of view on this subject you know. Great Britain's actions down the centuries colours the way the rest of the World see us.
But someone on here compared the ballot by the islanders overwhelmingly voting to stay as a British OT, to the vote in the Crimea. I wonder if he was saying it was rigged.
If you're implying I'm a coward. It's simply untrue. I'm advocating for peace here (alone?), and get war talk back. Call me many things, not a coward...
Are you serious? I think that Chamberlain should have gone to war against the Nazis either after the Crystal night, after the invasion of Czechoslovakia or, at latest when USSR signed a "peace treaty" with the third Reich. Instead he came home with a worthless paper guaranteeing "peace in our time". Now that is ignorance, at best. Ofcourse there are situations where you need to go to war. What I'm saying is that Falklands aren't. That war was, as I said a showpiece for the British public to ge focus away from internal matters. Brilliant trick by Thatcher, I'll give her that!
Falklands belongs to the Falkland islanders, they are not British or are they Argentinian....We are not responsible for a piece of land thousands of miles away, why should we pay Billions of pounds on a little piece of land and have nothing in return. If British expats want to live there then they have that choice but i don't want to pay for that. We dont rule the waves like in the song that glorifies piracy and we have no claim anywhere other than our own piece of land. when you have seen your mates killed for nothing then you can talk about protecting little places like the falklands that has nothing to do with us, If the Argentinians want it then let someone over there fight them for it and not us who live 10,000 miles away....we will come a cropper one day for going into wars that has nothing to do with us...
One thing we can agree on there Project but your opinions are just as valid as Mikra's and he has just as much right to air them without you reducing yourself to telling him to jog on. Can't you express yourself? I know you can but that was poor of you Project, no need to stamp on views you disagree with. Argentina has as much rite to govern the Falklands as Kazakhstan does, none in case your not concentrating and Cristina Kirchner has as much rite to govern the Falklands as Borat. The UK, GB as it was, is the ONLY nation who has ever invested in the Islands. We are the only nation to have built a settlement there, populated it with our own, and toiled for centuries, building a community, eking out an existence from the windswept landscape. The only time Argentina displayed historical interest, was decades after our own interests were declared and decades after our people settled, and only after the Spanish requested they be allowed to fly the flags of Argentina on their galleons when they invaded it for themselves. It still took them over 20 yrs but invade the Spanish did, extending their war against Britain. After Spanish invasion, failures, more battles, more invasions, more failures, at long last, the Islands were officially granted Sovereignty and the Spanish buggered off home leaving the Argentinian aristocracy to whinge for a century. Until Argentina fell under the governance and machinations of a brutal military junta in 1976. The Junta, the "National Reorganization Process", took brutal power through a military coup. After the over-throw they took supreme power and the National Reorganization Process began in earnest. Any who opposed them, many who didn't, and most of who they didn't like, were subdued through violence (death), arrest (death), interrogation (death), imprisonment (death), work initiatives (death). Eventually the atrocities became known to the world through news reports and interviews with terrified people, but mainly with the Women, the mothers, wives, daughters, sisters of the lost ones. Through their bravery and anguish the world, slowly, became aware of Argentina's "Forced Disappearances" and of the hundreds of thousands of common people; men, women, children, who were 'lost' without trace to this world. The world objected and the Argentine People began to rise but a despicable seed was sewn to divert the pain of a nation away from its cause. A plan formed to reunite the Argentine people, deflect the rage away from the military Junta. The plan was to create a unifying conflict which became known simply as "La guerra", the war. The Junta declared war on the Falklands, not Britain and soon after, the invasion began and that's who and why we went to war....and the rest is history, depending on which paper you read. The chant of this brutal Junta at the time was "Las Malvinas Son Argentinas" so it is particularly despicable that it was used again on a banner at a world event. It is absolutely disgraceful, intolerable that this phrase be bandied about. Cristina Kirchner has now shown her true self, a dopey, uneducated (her degrees are honorary, not honors), clueless, celebrity big brother wannabe, who's stupidity is only eclipsed by her ambition to be loved more than her long dead husband, Nestor, the ex president of Argentina. Her callous, moronic nature has been outed by this stunt. In her country those words ring with the same tones as Sieg Heil in Europe. They incite fear and illicit pain. They belong to a world best forgotten but this bitch moron of a leader thinks its cool for it to be displayed at a football match. Kick racism out of football, shame that cant extend to kick dangerous bitches out of power.
So you think we should declare war on a country because they invade another country, yet we shouldn't declare war on a country that actually invades our territory? Great logic.
Do I have to explain basics of international politics for you? You heard of NATO and UN? I know those weren't part of the game before WWII, but even then there were treaties to be honoured. And obviously you can, and should, invade countries even if they aren't a threat to you nation: Yugoslavia, Rwanda (oops), Libya and Syria are recent examples where actions could have been taken on that account. Iraq, Vietnam and, maybe, Afghanistan are examples where I believe there wasn't any reason to interfere... But it's my personal political point of view, it's not to derail the OP...
It was pretty convenient I agree. I dislike Thatcher, torries, politicians in general really, and I certainly see your point of view, but there were sound reasons, over and above her self obsession which drove her insane in the end, to sail for the Islands back then. Your quite right though, for her it was a lottery win, you could see the glint in her eye and hear the glee in her voice. She was not liked at all before the 'conflict', but it got her re-elected, so she could continue to rape of my country for another decade. Any Prime Minister, at that time, would have sailed the same as she did Mikra, but the callous bitch lucked out and she knew it.
Kick war mongers like our politicians out is my motto and perhaps we can get this county up and running again instead of any war going on in the world we must join in....The amount of Money this country spends on other peoples wars and the lives needlessly lost is astronomical and not worth it.
