Tricky one he is. He's not an out and out striker or a winger. Perhaps we could play him at the top of midfield, behind Lambert if we wanted to be more assertive in a game?
A backup winger. Lallana and Chamberlain will have tackles flying at them and it's quite likely that one will get an injury at some point. Sharpness and flair will be more important than raw pace. It could be worth looking overseas for this one. A backup striker. Someone quite young from L1 or L2 or even the BSP with a bit of all-round ability. Not another Lambert, but a striker who can be a team player. Someone who would consider picking out the run of a winger beyond him as well as going for goal.
1. Forte 2.Barnard
maynard would be ideal - thought this for a while, cant see anyone other than him around that we could get but i think leicester are willing to pay silly money so cant see us winning that battle. are there any other pacey strikers around who could chip at least 10 goals a season in? Jackson?? as for guly Matt i remember the couple of times we did play Guly behind the front two last year and i forgot he was on the pitch.....but just like you said it IS tricky to think where he fits in, class on his day but can he be consistent in the championship???
INM.......There is a lot to be agreed with in your post......Conman has a point too......... where do you fit Guly into your summation. For me he is the one person in whom we will be relying rather a lot this year. I just hope he does not take so long to reach his best as he did last season.
1. Forte 2.Barnard
Forte is capable of changing the course of a game in a split second, but he's technically useless. I think we need more from a winger. Stick him on to nick a goal definately, but I wouldn't trust his passing or ability on the ball. He's quicker than Lallana or Chamberlain, but he has the touch of a rapist and little awareness of people around him. Barnard might be in jail. Even if not, I think we still need some more depth.
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...e-Chamberlain-and-Gervinho-article752234.html Chamberlain set to sign for Arsenal for the 5th time according to the Mirror, yeah that's right - The Daily Mirror. The paper that said he's signed for Arsenal, but a week later reported that Liverpool were set to sign him but now Arsenal are. Bullsh*t.
Bristol City will surely let Maynard go if we offer a hefty fee, have heard £4m quoted in places - if we sign him, it will show obvious ambition
Okay, we're all desperate for signings but imagine what it's like being NC. He must be worn out putting together offers and getting them rebuffed. Getting Nigel what he wants must be like trying to fulfill a kid's Xmas list.
Presumably, NC is given a list ot recommendations from the scouts and Nigel. Feelers are put out to find who is available, but offers only made to other club (or player if free agent) when you are serious. Some clubs report in the press as soon as the first enquiry is made; Nicola has a strop, dummy out of pram, end of interest.
I can't see Saints spending big on a player. I've literally just realised the hefty difference in player prices over the course of 1 month/1 promotion... Maynard is a player that I would personally spend a bit more cash on, but only if Barnard goes down! Maynard is proven at this level and is young and capable of bigger things
Cortese doesn't pull out of deals as soon as it's published by the media ffs. As shown by the Ryan Dickson and Guly deals. I think you're overreacting based on what exactly?
Mariappa , junior stanislas, ched evans, giles barnes, danny guthrie... All young all do a good job at saints
Apprently, apprently, according to a friend's friend, James Beattie has moved in next door to her in Chandlers Ford and is angling for a move back to Saints. Hopefully this will happen, though I very much doubt it. Just need to coax Super Marian out of retirement next...
I also heard Mr. Beattie has purchased a place in Chandlers Ford. However I believe this has more to do with with the wife and family & an eye on retirement more than anything else. Naturally we would suit his requirements, but whether he suits ours is a matter for NA. Would be good cover for Lambert, but if his wage demands are too high he may well price himself out. Not sure Pompey will take him & with Bournemouth he would get the same wage restrictions. Could very well be a life in hotels for James in the twlight of his career.
I really don't think he'd go to Pompey, at least I'd hope not anyway. Every time he's played for them, whether it be with Saints or Stoke etc he's given their fans stick when he's scored.
Agreed, just watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQMtoFJlGqU&feature=related Love his celebration for the first (if ever a face summed up "You're not singing anymore" ha!). As much as I'd love to see him back, I would rather we signed a young hungry poacher/finisher who is eager to progress with the club. I like Jutkiewicz who we've also been linked with and according to FM he's a Saints fan and can do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byK2oBB_ucQ
i dont think we need another winger. we seemed to cope just fine when our key wingers were out of the game many times last season. depends on whether or not alex is still with us at the end of the window and of course on the fitness of lee holmes.
