Apparently Saints Are interested in both Billy Sharp (of Doncaster) and Neil Danns who is about to run out of contract at Crystal Palace. With Danns, Hull have supposedly offered him a 3yr contract at 15k per week, and he's waiting to see if we can better that.
Rangers also interested in Danns. As a free agent, it depends on where he wants to go. Also depends if NC interested in a bidding war. When we were in League 1, people wouldn't join us because they wanted Championship football. Now we're in the Championship, it doesn't seem any easier. Too many teams chasing the few players worth having.
Rangers have been cited by the press as interested, but nothing's materialised as yet. His agent said he was waiting for contact from Rangers and they replied by saying they had no previous interest.
Does anyone have info on relative financial well-being of Championship clubs. Who's likely to be the big spenders?
West Ham'll be spending large, they're going down the up or bust route so they will buy big, like Kevin Nolan. Birmingham are unlikely to spend too much unless they get large sale fees. Leeds and Leicester (the latter especially) are likely to spend the cash.
Hull? Last season I thought they were struggling for cash... I hope we don't go into stupid figures for players, I'm sure we won't
I may be wrong but the extension news was actually leaked on the final run in and not after the promotion had been won. So NA's future was secure no matter what happened in the final few games of the season.
After the run of results we had after NA signed up, we would have been daft not to try and keep him even if we got pipped at post and had another year in League 1.
Leicester and West Ham will be spending buckets full of cash! Hull too probably but they spent quite a lot in Jan so maybe not. Nottingham Forest are reported to be giving MacLaren a bit of a wodge and all but all their transfers have to be approved by their "transfer committee". Leeds won't be spending big money! They don't have huge amounts to spare, so unless they sell Gradel or Snodgrass I'd expect their money to go on decent wages rather than transfer fees. Not sure about Birmingham, will probably spend a decent amount but their target is to keep their current players - if they don't they'll have 10's of millions to spend though. Ipswich have a fair few million to blow as well, signed Chopra earlier this month which is a sign of intent. Peltier is another we've been strongly linked with amongst Huddersfield fans rather than Saints or Newspapers though so there may be stuff they've heard from good...(the dreaded "S" word) sources - apparently we're battling it out with Leicester for him. Sharp, Danns/Cork, A winger like Pilkington/Cox and Peltier would be a fantastic summer but like everyone always says we never sign people we're actually linked with! Still, its exciting times for us and I can't see Chamberlain going either really, it'll be so funny if July the 1st comes and he's still a Saints player after all those reports that he'd signed for DirtyArsenal.
Hey guys! Been a while since I posted something but hey thought I'd get involved as we are now getting closer to the start of the season and possible signings! So my question to you all is who do you realistically think we will sign before the season starts? I read today that the Scunny keeper from the last few years Joe Murphy has been released, possible free transfer to link up with Adkins again? I know we don't particularly need a new keeper but might be good for competition. Thoughts? I know we were all saying we could do with another CB but I have a feeling Adkins might stick with the defence we have and continue to swap Jaidi and Seaborne as well as giving Aaron Martin a bit more of a chance this season. Also didn't realise that Neil Danns is now available on a free!? Surely an offer would be made by us, due to the amount of interest supposedly and that he was class for Palace. I also expect a winger who can play up front, in the Guly mould. Reakon it will be more than likely that it will be a foreign (Italian) import... Papa Waigo anyone? That was a bit tounge in cheek but actually would love him back! Clearly we are after a quick striker but I don't think we will get Maynard (as good as he would be), think a back up winger who can also play as a striker is more likely porsonally e.g. Nathan Tyson esque. What are everyone's thoughts?
I don't think we'll be playing 442 next season. The midfield needs the extra man in it to play through it now that we are at a higher level. Also the midfield need to be able to cover the wide areas if Lallana and Chamberlain plan to play further forward to support Lambert. With Scheiderlin, Hammond and Chaplow in the middle, that only leaves Ward-Prowse and other kids as backup. We know Hammond and Chaplow aren't scared to stick the boot in, so another CM is important. Any more news on Jack Cork, he'd be ideal? A CB is important. Jaidi won't be able to play every game, but it's not urgent if Adkins believes that Martin or Seaborne can step up. They're both of the age where we should have faith in them or let them go. A backup winger. Lallana and Chamberlain will have tackles flying at them and it's quite likely that one will get an injury at some point. Sharpness and flair will be more important than raw pace. It could be worth looking overseas for this one. A backup striker. Someone quite young from L1 or L2 or even the BSP with a bit of all-round ability. Not another Lambert, but a striker who can be a team player. Someone who would consider picking out the run of a winger beyond him as well as going for goal.
