Incompetence is more likely (that's true in most areas of life) but both that and bad intentions seem more likely to me than some financial black hole or Cortese acting like a cross between Machiavelli and the Joker to orchestrate a campaign to destroy the club he spent 4 years building.

you don't think he'd like to receive some fat brown envelopes here and there for facilitating deals?

Well, this I can believe. That Krueger is stupid and/or has a big ego. As well as Dan's related hypothesis that KL is also stupid. They're trying to some extent, they just suck.

The idea that Krueger would knowingly come to Saints to play the public whipping boy for an asset stripping, I have trouble with. Or the idea that KL would suddenly asset strip the club despite over the past couple years investing large sums in long-term infrastructure for a training ground. That's the absolute dumbest thing to do if you plan to sell.

Well the training ground wasn't Katharina's thing; that was started while Markus was still with us. Plus it increases the value of the club by the value of the new ground anyway so she'll get that back if she sells.

From the day Markus died a sale was inevitable. It's weird no one sees it that way. A woman who never wanted a football club inherits one and has the chance to make a **** ton of money off it. But of course it was clearly on the way up, so she waits until Cortese has got it to the EPL like he intended, increasing its value a ton, and she sells when she thinks it's as valuable as it's going to get. This year she decides that time is now, Cortese disagrees and says he can get the club higher still, she disagrees and wants to lessen his role to increase her own so she can start prepping for a sale. He walks.

Obviously this is speculation but the assumption that she would want to stick with the club as its price rises is a given. Surely no one will debate that. It also fits with the reports that she and Cortese had disagreed over when to sell the club. I predict the club goes up for sale within the next year.

I'm bookmarking this comment and we'll come back to it next summer (or sooner).

When I hear the word conspiracy I want to reach for my gun. Nicola isn't above having a dig, but that's it. Katharina wants us to be a successful and financially sound, but has appointed an inexperienced figurehead....hopefully he won't last. I am sure she isn't asset stripping in the true sense of the word, but doesn't understand how you have to keep the heart of the team....good business, isn't always good football business. Les Reed has been our footballing guru through most of our most successful period, but perhaps he is getting too much power as there are no checks and balances with regard to footballing decisions. I bet he has little respect for Ralph...and that can be dangerous.

Anyone else think liverpools take it or leave it stance is good for us?

If we believe RK then it is.

"On our terms" - so basically, don't give us ultimatums and get lost. BUT, I don't really believe him. I'm the type of person that doesn't react well to ultimatums (hence why I could never be a CEO!), it makes me dig in more. RK unfortunately, I think will roll over and say "Yes is there anything else we can do for you".

I hope I'm wrong.

Nicely put Joe,and I have to agree I think we will be sold sooner rather than later.

As for Krueger, I don't think he's here to play whipping boy. I think he probably has the idea that he would remain here after a takeover.

Not sure what role Krueger is supposed to play to be honest. However, I do genuinely think Lallana will stay

Any club is up for an eventual sale, but I think the chance of a sale was greatest immediately after Markus's death, but it was still League 1 and Katharina spoke of her father's love for the club. I think she has enjoyed her recent tenure at the club, but she may get fed up when she realises it isn't all beer and skittles. She probably hoped the board would take over all the hassle and leave her to enjoy the good bits, but she appointed the wrong man at the top. The thing I don't understand is why she enjoyed watching our talented team and hobnobbing with Roy Hodgson...yet gave the red light for breaking the team up. Would be different if a new manager was in place with new ideas of what he wanted, but if we have a mass exodus without a clear plan, a beautiful thing will have been destroyed. We need someone to call a halt and not someone who just covers all bases (hope Ralph liked the baseball reference).

Why? The price was low then. You sell high, don't you. This club was a very obvious example of something which was going to increase in price. She'd have been a fool to sell so low.

The club is at its most valuable now. If they wanted to sell it, they would announce that and do it.

They are not going to sell the club.

There is preparation to be done first. They will sell this coming season. Hold me to it.

I think that's a very feasible outcome. If it is so, I am surprised more hasn't come from the Cortese camp, unless I missed it.

It doesn't make sense. They'd have done it immediately, unless they still think we can push higher.

There's £27m to be paid first, and buyers to be found for players who want to leave. I'm not going to debate it for hours, so we can take your advice and just wait and see if I'm right.

By preparation do you mean sell off all the big value players?

Only the ones who want to leave; I'm not making the "asset stripping" claim.

He's a quiet fella, and I think it's a sort of business etiquette to keep quiet about what you may know.
