Someone who simply wants a football club, at this point, would be nice.

If I find out you've actually just gone to the Liverpool board on the cheap Beefy, there'll be trouble!

I think that no matter what, some players would have left and probably MP. Especially if the board is truly bent on asset stripping the club like people claim-- how would NC stop that? He certainly couldn't make the board believe, else he'd still be here.

Yes, NC was excellent at inspiring the fans. Which is why they overlook the fact that he couldn't keep AOC here. Or that the Osvaldo signing was a disaster. His gift that keeps on giving is that so many of them still believe he could do anything, despite the fact that he couldn't. If he were still here, I'm sure he'd be concentrating his efforts into spinning this so that it looks like the players were sold on HIS terms, because he wanted to, and not for any other reason. But they'd still go. Maybe not as many, and maybe for more money. But they'd go.

But no, there are much bigger factors here at work including the most glaringly obvious one which is that the Prem is a sham and this has happened to just about every club ever and is happening as we speak not just to us, but to other clubs in England and all over Europe. Big clubs screw over small clubs everywhere. Players abandon ship first chance they get everywhere. That's how it is in football. NC was not going to change that. At least not in one year.

I have not seen this happen to any other club. Not to this extent. And we used to be the team that would tell the big boys where to go.

No we weren't. We were the team that could fend off mild interest from the big boys. This kind of full court press has never happened before.

I can agree with you on one thing, which is that we HAVE to tell Liverpool to screw off with their 25m bid. Blackmore says we wanted to net 20m which is already robbery. But 25m doesn't even net us 20m. And RK said we wouldn't make moves until the new manager got here and while Lambert might be an exceptional case, Lallana is the exact guy everyone was thinking about. If he gets sold, we look like huge chumps. And that is something I do not believe NC would have ever allowed to happen.

At the very least I think a conversation with NC would have been, had Adam wanted to go, along the lines of -

Liverpool: "£25m final offer and it needs to be done before World Cup"

NC: "If you want it done before World Cup, it's £30m or you can **** off, stronza"

But we haven't actually accepted the bid, right? We just know (or it's been reported) that Liverpool made an improved offer, and that it's supposed to be final. So maybe we have already told Liverpool to get bent or will tell them that tomorrow. I hope. Please?

Therein lies the key to this. That's what we should do, whether or not AL is pushing. If we don't, that rather tells us something.

Nicola would have faxed them the entirety of War and Peace to keep the machine tied up, followed by an ASCII illustration of a penis. Reportedly.

Well, this I can believe. That Krueger is stupid and/or has a big ego. As well as Dan's related hypothesis that KL is also stupid. They're trying to some extent, they just suck.

The idea that Krueger would knowingly come to Saints to play the public whipping boy for an asset stripping, I have trouble with. Or the idea that KL would suddenly asset strip the club despite over the past couple years investing large sums in long-term infrastructure for a training ground. That's the absolute dumbest thing to do if you plan to sell.

We've gone from being the envy of football fans to the laughing stock in a matter of weeks.

From reading what's been posted over night, it looks like everyone believes we've accepted the bid. Is this correct? I can't find evidence for that.

No and not everyone believes that. Most the overnight discussion here has been about the speed of what is happening and why it is happening ... not just the Lallana bids.

Hopefully we have told Liverpool to do one in regards to Adams offer....we need players of Adams status to possibly attract good transfer targets to consider us...

I don't care if Adam goes, but I want the board to wait for a new manager first. It's not the money, I just need to believe that Krueger meant what he said about waiting for a new manager and that Lambert was an exception - because he's such a lovely chap.

I agree with FLT about something just not being right here. Particularly with the Lambert sale coming out of the blue like it has. Incompetence or bad intentions in the board room feel like the most likely explanations but there's so little information at this point it's hard to say.

Well Lamberts medical is today so you would expect some kind of announcement from the club. Whether they address the issue of other bids is another matter.

I find the notion of a board with bad intentions pretty difficult to believe. Six months ago no one knew what Katharina looked like. If she was to commence a fire sale or asset strip etc then surely you would maintain that level of anonymity, not suddenly turn up to watch every game with your kids.

They must reject this latest bid for Lallana and get a new manager by the end of the week

Incompetence is more likely (that's true in most areas of life) but both that and bad intentions seem more likely to me than some financial black hole or Cortese acting like a cross between Machiavelli and the Joker to orchestrate a campaign to destroy the club he spent 4 years building.
