Better start making up a Koeman avatar if I get some free time this weekend.

Dear New manager...

You will be taking over a team without 3, maybe more, of our best players.

You had no say in them leaving.

You will get a transfer budget of probably half of what we've received in through sales.

You'll have a Director of Football who wants to do your job for you.

I wouldn't take much notice of the Bookmakers odds either. I can't imagine there are thousands of people betting on Saints new manager outcome, so with a very small pool of bets, even if I stuck just £20 on someone listed their odds would probably instantly shorten.

Why would they not be? Every fat, drunk, self-proclaimed football expert down every dive of a pub in the country is going to have an opinion on it. And those are the bookies' prime target audience.

Having an opinion and paying money out are two very different things. Bookies odds are just statistical probablities offset against risk.

Not at all. You can go on the exchanges and see exactly what gets matched on these markets. It's pennies.

I am unsure about Koeman. The dutch league is more lopsided than most with some right dross in half of it. His record outside that league isn't that good.

I guess with 3 or 4 coaching staff positions to fill, it might be easier for Saints to cherrypick a whole management team from a current club than take someone who is out of work & has to quickly try to get assistants together who may be in work at different clubs.

You can often tell something is going on by the odds. Bookies usually the first to know if something is up

This thought has niggled me for a while. Do you think our Les still has a little chip on his shoulder in that department?

as I said elsewhere, perhaps Cortese kept Reed on a tight leash and now with an inexperienced board, he's flexing his muscles more?

Odds shortening for Koeman at all bookies. 11/10 at 2 places now 4/6 at Betfair. All other managers are drifting away.

So am I, but frankly, as long as they are installed quickly and it's not immediately apparent they're completely clueless, I would take just about anyone right now.

Agreed. What Koeman has in his favour for sure is his name, and that might just about be the most important thing right now.

Plus I reckon he could take Poch in a dust up.....
