The trouble is that any new manager has a lot to live up to. We want a team that plays some of the most watchable football in the league....if he can do that and improve our defence he would be worshipped. Realistically, I would settle for midtable with all the upheaval we've had and no flirting with relegation.
I've decided I like Koeman. Still think Yakin would be more exciting, but "exciting" might not be what we're looking for right now. We've had enough of that for a while. Koeman's history as a player and a manager should be respected enough by the supporters and players to indicate Saints mean business. And he played at Ajax and and Barcelona. Kinda hard to think of someone who knows more about academies and total football then him. A year and a half ago, if given the choice between MP and Koeman, almost everyone would have picked Koeman. We'd probably be surprised he'd even want to come. Even now, outside of England I think a lot of people would choose Koeman. Which isn't to say I think Koeman is better than MP. Just that if the idea is to show everyone we still mean business and get a guy who looks pretty decent on paper at least, Koeman looks like just the ticket.
The fans need to see a coach of some stature installed at SMS to restore any credibility to the board...they need to show they mean business. I see Koeman is interested but hasn't been approached according to his agent. No reason why he couldn't be contacted even without the shortlist being finalised...could save time whether we count him in or count him out.
I suppose he could talk the other team to death whilst simultaneously fertilising the turf on the pitch?
Heard he was impressed with Staplewood today . Mind you , all prospective managers would be I would imagine !
wouldn't be the worst thing. there are bad reviews for Koeman and Yakin (i know he's already taken) as well, so there's no clean candidate.
