Oh, come on! None of us, including the know-it-all press, knows what's in that contract. Only the club and Pochettino, and a few lawyers and agents know for sure. Anything else is pure supposition.
Exactly! so as it stands, its a "five year contract", until we actually know what the clauses are (which we won't) then Pochettino will be known as our new manager on a "five year contract!".
So you are saying you don't know its a concrete 5 year no clause deal then? Good. Stop using that as one of your sticks to beat him with then. Its very easy to say "X was the wrong choice, we should have gone with Y" because 99% of football managers end up failing. Even SAF and Wenger at points in their reigns could have been said to have failed and supporters were calling for their heads. You saying Pulis was the right man doesn't make it so, but i imagine if Poch doesn't last 20years you'll be on here with a "i told you Pulis was the one". What is much harder than criticising every appointment and pretending you know better is to back the man the club picked and in any teeny-tiny way possible as a fan make it more likely he will be a success. I'm gonna do that.
Levy announced Pochettino as our new manager, on a five year contract, anything else is speculation, so unless someone can provide us with proof of these clauses then its a five year contract. Yes, it is easy to say " PO was the wrong choice" or "we should have gone with PU" but if I believe Pochettino is the wrong man, then thats what I believe. Remember Spurm, there was a thread pre season where we had to state our surprise team of the year, I picked Southampton and said they would finish top 8, so really I should be behind Pochettino as I have been following saints to a degree and been impressed with their football, yet as I mentioned to you before, its about being a "good fit" and my initial view is Pochettino is the wrong man.
It could be equally supposed that there are clauses. To be honest, I've no idea what the norm is nowadays. He's relatively new, so it wouldn't surprise me if there are clauses. We would only ever find that out, if and when he leaves.
With Levy anything's possible, of course. Equally, if he is successful, he may well do to us what he's done to Saints!..
I never disputed it was 5 years. You saying it has no clauses is EXACTLY the same as me saying it has clauses. Thats my point. Actually, sod it, i give up, carry on with your Pulis bum licking and be miserable. Not my problem
When Dim Sherwood got the heave ho I would have liked LVG or FDB...but now Poch is here I'm fairly happy, if he can get us playing like Southampton then IMO as we have for the most part better players then I can see us doing well. I truely believe that the likes of Lamela, Soldado et al will flourish under his guidance as I've read a lot in the last few days from saints players about how he instilled pure belief in the players, filled them with confidence etc. some of our players look like they need the old arm round the shoulder trick like redknapp did, they were never gonna get that from AVB even less from Dim Tim. Facts are he's here let's get behind him and the team but with realistic expectations, I do believe we are more than capable of winning a cup, as for top 4 .. Not next season. He's gotta be given time though and the players HE wants. So for F@#k sake lets get someone in whose sole job is to keep Levy away from the big red ejector seat button!!! COYS !!!!
The unwary may need an electron microscope to find and read them, but Levy clauses will be in Pochettinos' contract.
I'm pretty sure that under Levy our average length of time for a manager is no different from the PL as a whole.
When AVB was appointed I wasn't happy but decided to get behind him. I stated that he should be given at least 3 years to form his on team before we judge him. However, I was one of the first calling for his head because of the dire style of football. I now offer the same support to MoPo, we should give him three years before we judge him but with the proviso that the football must be exciting. We ain't going to win every match and we might even concede 5 or 6 goals in our own back yard on the odd occasion. But if we do we need to reply with at least 3 or 4 and not just give up, which has happened in the past.
why do clubs give managers anything more than 2 year deals? if he has a bad season he'll be out of the door by this time next year..
This job has come far too soon for Pochettino and there is little to no chance of him being good enough to win a European trophy in his first season. He does have that look about him, moody and someone who will struggle when results aren't going his way, hence RCD Espanyoll needing to sack him to save themselves from relegation. Lucky the world cup is on soon so I can forget about this bland appointment and maybe we will make a glamorous signing to boost the mood for a few weeks, but not happy at all about this appointment.
Funny how Neil Ashton didn't point out this sulky high maintenance side when Pochettino was at Southampton...
