Anyone got any idea where you can get cheap fish tank hoods from? I'm after a 30" x 12" with light fitting facilities but cheapest I can find is £50 <yikes>

fishkeeping forums, I am an aquarium nutcase, well a nutcase in general, but fish forums are the best place to go to get a used one, if you can find a match, cheaper too. Easier on the legs searching as well is that internet searching.

Also, for hood and lights 50 is fairly cheap if it is new and includes lamps

Been trying. Tempted to just buy a new fricking tank <laugh>

what make is the tank? jewel by any chance?

what's wrong with the ballast anyway?

I got the tank second hand from the mrs' (not married) sister. It has no markings and the lid is missing (obviously).

It's 30" x 12" with no lips for lids to rest on so needs to be a overlapping hood.

What you brought there my friend, is just a glass tank. Have you ever upset the sister as I think she's just swindled you <whistle>

£50 aint bad for the lid and lights. You'll pay more for a new tank and lights dumb ass<laugh> My last set of 2 foot lights and lighting unit was over £100, stop bitching
#cheapskate

if it's cheaper cut perspex and make a lid, any auld **** light can go on top if it's for freaking goldfish

Do you have a water filter and heater?

I like cheap, only thing better is free <laugh>

I know £50 isn't bad now I've looked around, just surprised at how much they cost when I started looking. **** paying £50 though, I'll make a wooden one :)

Dig a hole in the garden, fill it with water.

Ta da, you have a pond for free to keep them in.

Yeah, got everything else. I have tropical fish, had them for about three years now. My original tank bust about six months ago and I've had this one since as a temporary solution. Since I'm not going to get a bigger tank for less than £300 (<yikes>) I though I'd try and get a lid.

I've actually got spare filter and heater because the ones I had for the old tank weren't big enough.
