If the board accepts that MP can stay, to see out his last year, with no promise of him signing a new contract, when the current one expires, how far can they trust him with safeguarding the squad?

I don't know that I would be comfortable knowing that MP had the final say on transfers in and out, in the knowledge that he will be coming to the end of his contract, with no guarantees that he will stay around, next year.

What would the response be if he sold of the Crown Jewels, from the squad, then walked away next summer, possibly to a club that had bought one or two of our players?
What are the chances on him signing decent players, for Saints, when they know he won't commit to extending his own contract?
I wouldn't like us to end up with a bunch of money grabbing mercenaries, much like those that helped kill off Pompey.
Players that don't care who is in charge or who they are playing for, so long as the money is right.

IF the delay is being caused by MP, hedging his bets, then I'm in the camp that says "**** off".

Isn't there a sign, in the dressing room, that says "The name on the front of the shirt, is more important than the name on the back of it."?

That's how I feel about this now.

No manager is fully in control of these things, the chairman/owners/directors will veto a sale or sanction a sale if they so wish.

If that weren't the case then why would Poch be worrying about player sales that he didn't agree with.

I would say this isn't Football Manager but that game has improved so much that I tried to get rid of a disruptive star player on a free and the board stopped this happening! They also sanction a sale of a star player if they get an obscene offer.

It's a Catch-22 situation. Pochettino is more likely to stay if he knows Lallana and Shaw etc. are staying, and Lallana, particularly, is more likely to stay if he knows Poch is staying. Can't they just talk to each other, and then tell us something? Any news would be better than this seemingly endless speculation!

If only Les Reed would make a statement, explicitly confirming that no player would be sold who Pochettino didn't want to sell..... oh, wait.;)

Sky Sports News breaking news that Tottenham have settled on Pochettino as #1 target.

There has been contact between the clubs today, but nothing has been said to Sky by either club.

Spurs hope to make an agreement with Saints by the end of the week.

So Sky just summing up the entire reporting of this whole situation. Spurs want him, and despite already being named their manager by the press some weeks ago, haven't even made an official approach to Saints yet. 'By the end of the week'? I thought it was in 48 hours? Although, that was supposed to be 2 weeks ago as well, and then the following week, but now it is this week.

Basically, nobody has a bloody clue what is going on.

Or maybe he wants to know whether he can keep the players or if they are sold whether he can spend the money we get for them? There are loads of things that can be going on, we just have to wait.

Yes, but when he came he was all "I am just the team coach. I don't get into all that board and transfer stuff." Except now he's trying to dictate transfer budgets. He also made a big deal about how he had studied the team and thought about the decision for months. And yet he is thinking about going to Tottenham the minute they throw cash at him.

Something is not right here. Either the Board is not who we think they are, or Pochettino isn't. Hopefully this gets resolved today or tomorrow.

Surely you don't take everything he says publicly at face value? One of the first things he did when he arrived was say the Wanyama deal was dead, and then sign him anyway, with a smile and a wink. Modern managers have to be diplomats as well and he knows how to play that game.

Comes as no surprise to anybody who's been paying attention, but...

I understand #SaintsFC manager Mauricio Pochettino is in advanced talks to become #THFC boss.
